For those with tire carriers, little bit more than $350 but it fits more carriers than just aev.

I'm building a 16 gallon kit. It's not as simple as fit a tank, a pump and go. It's honestly a pain.

Auxillary Fuel Tank 5th Gen 4Runner

I just watched a VLOG on YouTube with LifeStyle Overland where they put a 12 guage steel 33 Gallon Fuel Tank under a 4Runner where the spare tire used to be. This was installed by Tactical Application Vehicles in Albuquerque, NM. It is not a simple install. Cuts are made to the suspension, new pieces welded in, etc. These guys are weld fuel line parts and really seem to know what they're doing. I WOULD NOT TRY THIS AT HOME. This would also force me to buy a bumper with the spare tire mount as I would lose the stock location. Hence more $$$$. It's episode S2E23. I haven't called to see what it costs, and they don't say in the video, but I'm sure it's probably not cheap. Just the cost of doing business. Looks really high quality. That being said I would have a fire extinguisher handy in the vehicle. You probably should in any case.

....If your are "price squeamish"...this Aux Fuel Tank modification probably isn't for you!

I'm up in the air on ordering one at the moment, I do really like the idea of 56 gallons of fuel on board, just not sure I can fully justify the price though

I've got one of these on order (Long Range America), to be installed in a couple of months when it arrives from Australia (provided there are no Corona Virus delays). No "cuts" to the suspension are required as far as I know. What is removed is the cross member that was used to hold the spare tire (as it is no longer needed, and creates more space for the Aux Fuel Tank). The aux tank is designed to work with or without KDSS. Tolerances are pretty precise/tight. If your are "price squeamish"...this Aux Fuel Tank modification probably isn't for you!

I was about to get one from Long Range America until I realized they aren't CARB certified (California). Bummer but may wait and see if they get approved.

My aux tank has been running for several years without any issue. Click on my build thread below for details. It can be done and it’s not all that horrible of a project.

Agree a bit pricey when one factors in the installation price. Tough to justify unless you are doing long trips that really warrants more than 8-10 gallons of additional fuel that most carry in jerry cans. I considered this upgrade this summer but couldn't justify it. Its still on my list of things to do as I plan on doing a few international trips in a couple of years. From a functionality perspective, it is still better than a ton of mods a lot of us do (like dropping $1K on new rims, or a new head unit etc) as long as one can get past the initial sticker shock of the purchase and installation
