AVN6620 Installed

Picked up a Eclipse AVN6620 from 4runner19 and it was a real simple install, mostly plug and play. I mounted the GPS antenna under the dash on top of the vents and so far no issues with signal reception for the most part.

I went ahead and ran the speed and reverse lines to the cluster, so that added another 20 minutes. I think the hardest part for that was that in everything I read, the reverse signal wire was red with a yellow stripe, it was a different color, White with a light blue stripe I believe (pin 3 of connector 3).

Haha, the only reason why they do is that I've replaced every single one in there over the past month. I'd replace one, put everything back together, and another burns out. I gave up and just replaced the rest pro-actively. Damn things are expensive though. I thought about going the LED route, but didn't know if I wanted to mess with the ones in the CC unit since that thing can be touchy.

Let me know if you have questions. You don't have to hook up the speed and reverse lines, it just addds a bit of accuracy and the map scrolls a little smoother when you are driving and when it can't see a gps sat, ie. parking structure, tunnel, etc.

Ptam-HELP!

So-the AVN6620 arrived today (thanks 4runner19!). I took the dash apart and found that the plug I pulled from the factory stereo will NOT connect with the Eclipse system...I thought it was a direct plug in, right? I also have an extra plug that I cannot connect to the eclipse. I didn't have alot of time this afternoon so I put the dash back together to go to work for a few hours. Hoping someone can offer me a suggestion and I can fix it tonite. Do I need an adaptor? Didn't even get to the speed sensor, gps, or e-brake wiring

Realized that I needed to remove the external amp below my factory stereo.(thanks Ptam). Unit is in and working for now-will be pulling apart tonight to install gps antenna and try to figure out the 3 remaining wires for speed and parking brake. Will post pics.

Running into trouble: Eclipse AVN6620 Unit is installed, gps antenna connected but not able to figure out where reverse wire, speed wire, and park wire are supposed to connect. Also, for whatever reason, I lost my parking lights, license plate lights, and all dash lights except for the head unit. I know the problem is my inexperience behind my stereo, but cannot figure out why all the lights don't work. Process of elimination leads me to believe the 1 plug that was in the back of the factory stereo that has no place on the eclipse is the one to close the circuit for those lights (circled in red in picture). Either that or one of the screws that held the external amp in place needs to be replaced? ANY suggestions are appreciated-would be happy to get my lights back, let alone the other wires connected.

For the parking brake wire, if you want to use it, you can ground it to the chassis, ie. where the bracket for the external amp mounted to the car. This will allow a *ahem* passenger to access the menus (and watch a DVD) while the car is moving.

The speed and reverse wires can be found on the back of the cluster, but it is a bit involved to get to those wires. The speed wire is on connector 28 I believe, it is Green with an orange stripe. The reverse line is on connector 26 (Pin 3) white with a light blue stripe.

It's a bit involved get get in there if you're not comfortable taking apart yoru car, so you don't need to hook up these lines for it to work, but it does add a little bit of accuracy.

Thanks-I'll tackle the cluster over the weekend. I'm going to have to reinstall the screws from the external amp and ground the park wire. Do you see any reason why that 1 prong plug would cause a problem unconnected in the back? I'm almost finished-just can't get my dash, cluster, parking and license plate lights back on. :violin:

That plug is actually the diversity antenna (secondary), so it really wouldn't be related to your lights at all.

So if you disconnect the radio, do your lights come back on? The radio backlighting for the buttons don't seem to be related to the ilumination line.

I had this same problem on a Corolla back in 99 or so (I think it was a 97) and I was doing tons of installs. I had to remove a blue wire from the setup. I am sure it is the same wire (not sure it is the same color... but the symptoms were EXACTLY the same) but it was one that was coming out of the stereo that I hooked up to the vehicle that I shouldn't have using a scosche conversion plug. What I did was bought an alligator clip jumper wire (clip on both ends) and unplugged one connector at a time. Then ran the jumper from a clip on the stereo end to a clip on the vehicle end and saw if the problem was reproduced. Once I found it (that darned blue wire!) I took it out of the setup and voila... everything worked.

It would probably be worth it to either be a test wire or make one using two alligator clips from Radio Shack and a coil of small wire (like 12 awg or so).

All the lights that are out receive power from the 10 amp tail light fuse. I would check it carefully.

So I pulled the fuse-which looked fine, but tried a different fuse anyway and SOB-it worked. I feel like an A$$! All is in and working. Good to go. :withstupid:
