Awnings: which side?

Driver, RTT goes off the other side, it's closer to the fridge which is on the driver side in the cargo area as well. Plus if it's just myself and one kid they sit behind me so just less effort and it's fast to deploy there if it's raining. Other than that, just easier to judge where it'll extend when parking.

mine is going on the driver side. most controls and things I need access too somehow always end up on the drivers side

Not sure your application, but I would vote passenger. This is the side that the awning on most campers / trailers and therefore most campsites are set up with the picnic table, fire pit on that side. This is a wash if you drive in backwards or never venture into the commercial sites.

I got the room because I had decided against an RTT, 3 months later my wife decides we should get an RTT. It's nice that have but with the RTT I would only use it in rainy or really buggy weather, not big problems in Colorado. East coast probably more useful...

I'll be getting a awning and room some time down the road. I don't "need" a RTT and most times I don't even need a traditional tent. I think this will suffice. Thoughts?

Well...it's only $170 at Autoanything and I hit a 30% off sale with free shipping so it cost me like $120. You can't buy a quality tent that size for that price.
ARB makes good stuff too- the room is awesome!

Something nice about the room is that you can stand in there comfortably. Easy to change clothes, or even use it as a kitchen in inclement weather.

I agree completely, but if I had known I was getting the RTT I wouldn't have bothered getting the room. I change before getting out of the tent but I will take the awning room on big trips with the family for that extra space. It does take up as much room inside as a large tent so when loaded to the gills there is that.

Awning off the passenger side. Wife rides shotgun, she does the cooking, cooler is on the passenger side. That is her side of the truck when we camp. My side has the roof top tent and all the gear. When we pull up, I take care of my side with setting up the tent and gear, she takes care of hers with the awning and cooking.
Plus when we pull over on the side of the road for lunch and breaks, awning opens away from the road side.

Plus I have a lockable Yakima box on the driver side to easily access being I am on that side.

Used my full setup last night, we decided to put the room up even though we didn't need it for any reason. This morning while taking it down and packing it away my wife said she didn't want to take it on our upcoming three week trip, too much space and time. She suggested we just get a wind break (we are leaving next weekend), now having the RTT I'm inclined to agree with her. Wait is this her build or mine???

Thanks for the picture and info, one more question: Is the room a PIA to set up solo? I'm thinking the room/awing might make a good alternative to a RTT for solo camping.
