Awnings: which side?

Thanks for the picture and info, one more question: Is the room a PIA to set up solo? I'm thinking the room/awing might make a good alternative to a RTT for solo camping.

It is about the same as setting up a ground tent IMHO, I'd rather just sleep in my truck.

Either side I wish. My homemade tarp awning and PVC tubing is attached to the Yakima Load Warrior via bungee cord balls so it is mobile. Everything breaks down and resides in the truck so it's not on the roof during transport so it won't snag on low hanging brush. I've typically put it on the passenger side since I have a sun shower attached to one of the poles and don't want a muddy area when I'm getting back into the driver side.

Bump for this thread, my awning is in the garage, waiting for the roof rack. Curious on everyone else's reasoning for side placement.

Figure out what your intended uses are for the awning and go from there. I think the obvious reasons for why people mount on either side have already been stated.

driver for me, because i have a snorkel on the passenger side, and the 2500 arb covers the whole driver's door opening when it rains.....

Also, all the drivers controls are available under the awning (radio, lights, etc).......what can i say, i'm a lazy bastard.

I sleep in the back of the truck. I stow all the gear on the passenger side and sleep on the driver side. So it's a driver side mount on mine.

Update: Mine is now on the drivers side because of the snorkel.

I just got the ARB 2500 Awning and Deluxe Awning Room from Auto Anything for under $400.

Sun rises in the East, sets in the west. When you park on the beach with the back lift gate open towards the ocean (or roof top tent, autohome style, the opening is to the back as well) the awning will provide the most shade through out the hottest part of the day. By the time its on the driver side its weak or setting later in the fall.

The 2500 is approximately 8'x8'.
