axel throwing grease after lift

Hey guys, I am still new here but really love you guys. I find a lot of information just by reading and the great pics you post. I just installed a 3" toytec lift and I also put on 285 nitto's. I drove it to have my tires put on before I put the drop down diff kit on. It is throwing grease from the axel boots even after I put the diff drop down kit on. Jeff from toytec said to put band clamps on and that should stop it.
1. How do I refill the boots with grease?
2. Have you used band clamps for this before? If not what are my options.


I hope to get this finished and post some pics next week and have my own build thread. I must say I love my lifted 4 runner and it looks damm good. lol

i put the clamps on and it has been fine. i did not add grease just do it ASAP

I never had luck with those over the axle band clamp style boots. Always ended up leaking. For me, the best solution was always pulling the CV joint to actually replace OEM style the boot. I know this is a pain, hence why people do like the quick over the boot style.


As for grease. Depends on how much grease you lost, and if water or dirt worked its way in. If it has been dry, then I wouldn't worry much.

When I first lifted my 4Runner my CV boots started leaking grease too. Tried clamping the boot but it ended up ripping the boot...idk maybe I made it too tight. Ended up replacing the CVs with Napa ones. They've been great and they have that awesome lifetime warranty too.

The clamps may work- but the boots will probably tear. With the lift, the boots actually rub on themselves which over time is going to blow it- I would just find a Napa store and get new cvs. They're not bad price wise and come with a life time warranty, then get your old ones fixed and keep them for spares. This will not be the last time it happens.
