Yeah it’s an OzTent RV-4. It’s pretty beefy built. slightly cheaper than an RTT and I can fit in my garage.

So a fun little bit of information regarding my dual battery setup. After 72 hrs the battery was at just less than half capacity and showing 12.2v. Running my CFX-35 and set at 34 degrees. The bottom back of the fridge kept things frozen. The top shelf in front kept the eggs and veggies cold. Overall very happy! I also charged 2 batteries for my DJI Spark from the house battery and inverter. This is on a group 34 AGM from Autozone. Also another fun fact, Wal-Mart is now carrying the same AGM line for even less!

That paw print is either a mountain lion or a bear. I’m pretty sure it’s a bear print and 5 were spotted in our area. It’s bear hunting season so they are on the run :-/

I was the only one in the group to catch a fish. This little brook trout, which got loose just as I was about to grab him.

So I made a simple video of a copycat shower/rinse container. What I made was a proof of concept just to see if it’s even worth having. Myself and 2 others that went on the trip with me all tried Dude Shower Wipes. One stuck with baby wipes. What we found is the dude wipes kind of work but don’t really make you “feel” clean. Two of us decided that Dude Shower wipes didn’t really do a great job of getting rid of the stink ( we discussed and experienced this in great detail while stuck in my rig on the way home). The one that used baby wipes said he felt clean. One person liked the dude wipes and thinks they work great.
The shower is great to have however it is a little of a pain to have to keep pumping it up. You have to have a strategy to rinse off. I suggest low sud and residue soap. On the last day myself and one other used the shower to wash our hair. We heated water in the coffee pot and 1 gallon washed both our hair. We used the shower to rinse off cookware and to wash hands the whole trip. In long term I can say it won’t be used any more as I have plans to have an onboard/on demand water pump and use a 5 gallon Jerry can for water.

So, My first attempt at doing the timing belt and water pump replacement is happening this weekend. Been experiencing higher than normal temps. I did a block test to make sure it wasn’t a head gasket deal. I’m a little nervous about it. Mainly because of the time it will take. I got an OEM Toyota parts kit from Amazon Warehouse for $150 cause the pump had no box. I have a Toyota T-stat and a brand new Toyota crank bolt ready to go. I made the tool to hold the pulley cause I can.

Black river is amazing! I want to go back! We went last year during monsoons with our 1yo and it wasn't as enjoyable as I had hoped it would be. Lots of big birds fly that valley, it's awesome to see them.

So I did the timing belt, water pump, T-stat, pulleys and tensioner replacement per the FSM. Holy crap it’s a lot of work. Disassembly seemed to take a lot longer than reassembly. I had a hell of a time getting the timing belt on correctly. My problem was getting the slack out of the water pump side of the belt. I watched Timmy the Tool man videos, searched the web, scoured every source I could to no avail. Then I got to thinking, use the crank to get rid of the slack. What I did was set the crank so it was just to the left of TDC marks. Then turned the crank clockwise slowly and fed the belt on and it easily got the slack out of the belt. The cams were lined up ahead of time and the belt was held in place with plastic clamps. I released the tensioner and tested for alignment and it was spot on! Also when I went to remove the old belt the right cam and crank were lined up but the left cam was left of center. I wonder what affects that had.
I got it all back together and drove it around in 109 degree weather with the air on. The ONLY time it got to 210 was in dense stop and go. Other than that in Hot AZ weather i’m seeing an average of 203 at highway speed. I’m happy.

Ordered some LED spot pods from Amazon Warehouse, a harness, and an NMO Ham antenna mount and cap. Yep that’s right. Ham test Oct 15th, as it turns out my new profession needs a Ham operator for DoD exercises. I’m not getting a fancy radio right now. Going the Baofeng route to learn on.
Over the weekend another drain and fill of transmission. I’m slowly cycling out the fluid to be easy on the transmission and it’s cleared my P0770 E solenoid. Still crossing fingers. I also added the new all metal Magnefine filter to the cooler line. I have no slippage, strange shifts or noises so I think it was just dirty fluid.

I’m going to have to lengthen the leads in the harness to the pods cause I want to run the line out the back rubber hatch boot for a clean look. Then I have to fuss with the switch so the light is only on when my headlights are turned on. I think I read to tap into the dimmer dial for that which makes sense. I’ll have to OCD research it of course.
PS paid 20 bucks for the pods cause no box and one missing bolt. Bolt is no biggie because they are, well, too big for the hole. I’ll get some SS ones or regular steel and oil treat them till they are black.

So I am officially a Ham operator. Well, I have my license, which allows you to start learning about Amateur radio.
Today I received what would equate to training underwear for the toddler who still occasionally shits themselves. I got a Baofeng UV-5R. Cheap, small, and good to learn on without dropping a ton on something you arent quite sure of yet.
After downloading the Mac-friendly CHIRP software herehttps://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Download, I thought "this is going to be easy". WRONG. It is NOT plug and play. There are many serial cables, some with chips that Apple and PC will recognise right away, and some that will leave you dropping F bombs. I, of course never have anything easy happen and got a generic cable. None of the drivers on the CHIRP site worked. So I had to hunt for a couple of hours, use Terminal on the Mac, and trace the port the cord was plugged in to.
I have an iMac I got for free and repaired for $50. It is older and is stuck with OSX 10.11.6 making it difficult to find...anything. Low and behold! Apple users with older Mac computers who may run into the same problems here is the link to a Baofeng Serial cable driver. https://blog.sengotta.net/signed-mac-os-driver-for-winchiphead-ch340-serial-bridge/
Everything worked as it should with Chirp. I installed NOAA channels and some local repeaters. There are misconceptions that there are people talking all the time on ham. From my short experience so far I have heard nothing but crickets with he exception of NOAA and the one time I heard the local repeater respond to me keying the mic.

The Arizona Metrolink System probably has the most traffic of all the repeaters in the Phoenix metro area. I'm up on the north side of the valley, so I'm very close to the towers on Shaw Butte, and I can pick up Mt. Ord too.

Even down south in San Tan you should be able to Rx these repeaters. (Tx - not a chance on your UV-5R)
The UV-5R is a great little radio too. Adding a tigertail can increase your range as well.
When I'm monitoring, I usually get a kick out of listening to DPS or Phoenix Fire dispatch. (nearly continuous traffic)

Thanks. I can hear the tone for an EAARS repeater in Globe. I also could hear the two beep from what I “Think” is Usury Mtn. No talking though on either. I will make a tiger tail, seems easy enough.

Sorry to hear about your transmission. Why not buy a Toyota certified reman transmission from actual Toyota for the same amount?
Camelback Toyota Online parts has these and they are done via Toyota National and not some local parts shop that uses non-OEM parts in the trans. That is the way I'd suggest for you or anyone else. You also will save on taxes since no taxes on parts from AZ.
I'd have to double check but I think the rate is around $2,700 after core. It won't cost more than $500 to install. Probably less. I bet you'll be in at least that much with the local shop.

I would prefer that. I was intending to go that route, and saving up the cash. Unfortunately mine crapped out sooner than expected so I have to go somewhere that accepts payments.
I also found out that a Toyota reman transmission only has a 12 month warranty. Some of the non-Toyota remanufacture companies in the US offer 3 years and unlimited miles.
