Back glass

Hi - the only point of this post is to express my frustration. The other night some punks smashed my back window and stole a survival gear bag. Oddly enough, they didn't steal my beautiful viair compressor... Anyway, man is that glass expensive. $700 for the glass and $300 install.

Super annoying. I wish people respected other people's stuff. I realize it was probably just kids, but if someone is really down and out, knock on my door and maybe I'd help you... Why would your break my damn window.

Anyway, that's all...

Thats sucks man, sorry to hear about your misfortune. That's happened to my brother before while he lived in DC. It sucks, but carry on my friend. Eventually....and hopefully whoever did it will get their "just reward" for their actions.

$700? Are you looking at OEM? Go for aftermarket. Shouldn't cost more than $200 for the glass depending on where you go. Install is a pain on this one however so $300 might be fair to a little high.

Ya, I paid out of pocket. My deductible is high. I went OEM as well. Hopefully it doesn't happen again.

I started looking into 3M security film...might be an idea.

Thanks for the sympathy folks.

I have a 0 dollar deductible comprehension which covers my windshield (rocks, chips, etc), vandalism, and theft on both my trucks. I only pay 130/month (full coverage) for the two so it's well worth it for situations such as this. You might want to look around at a different insurance company.

Really sorry to read your post, had a passenger side window on an 98 Maxima about 8 years ago ,smashed out. This bunch of thugs had blocked my drive way all i did was ask them to move. This I guess made them angry, that night they returned at around 2 am smashed my window.

Cost me $200 installed just paid it myself.

I had one of the small side windows broken out on my old '95 4Runner in an attempt to steal the radio. Even after prying the dash to shit he couldn't get it out so stole only the faceplate. So yeah I understand about the no respect thing. If you failed as a thief to steal what you wanted, don't take another piece to make it unusable. Just accept that you failed as a criminal and go on with life.

My only other bad experience with glass was a couple months after getting the '03. My wife and I were heading back home on the Interstate when something completely busted up the front windshield. We both swear we saw somebody on the passenger side of the car in front of us throw something out of the window. It was pretty dark but we got enough of the the license plate and make/model/color that the trooper found the owner's information and called. Of course they denied throwing anything, but said they thought they had ran over a small rock.

I never did think it was just a small rock, and neither did the glass installer. I did go with a Pilkington for like 20% of the OEM cost.
