Back in the Family: Proud owner of a 2006 Sport V6

Hello all. 6 years ago I owned a pristine condition 1987 4Runner SR5 passed through 2 generations and back. It was nice... sound system, 17" Chrome KMC wheels, BFG A/T tires, like new all-original paint and a bean bag for a back seat. Only recently was it sold by my aunt to another lucky owner outside of the family.

After driving a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee and a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo, I am back in the family with a new 2006 Sport Edition V6 4x4. Details of the truck are in my signature. There were 8 Black 4Runner Sport V6 in the Kansas City Region (6 states). This one was loaded and on the ground 500 miles away in Mason City, Iowa.

The best part of this purchase was the deal. Top dollar for my trade, 2.9% APR for 60 months, 7yr/75,000mile bumper-to-bumper wear-and-tear warranty, 3yr paint protection, Gap Insurance, Anti-Theft Package, Nicely loaded for $36,800 (sticker was $35,720). I had a nice connection... friend of a friend. :bowdown:

Out of all the things I love about 4Runners, my favorite is the full roll-down back window. Nothing beats having the wind flow freely through your truck on a warm Spring or Summer evening and I'm glad to have that feature back. :clap:

Nice! Hey, was the Sirius a dealer installed option? How is the antenna mounted and is the reception OK? I have been reading with the windshield mount antenna sometimes reception can be sketchy.

I included it in the financing but it will actually be installed by a local car stereo shop on Monday. I will be sure to NOT get a window mounted antenna.

Good luck with the new turck and welcome back to the 4Runner family! It look awsome! I am sure this one is way different than your 1987. When riding with the back window down, are you bothered by the sulfur smell?

Sulfur smell... from the exhaust? Never noticed it.

Indeed this one is much much different than the old. The old sounded hollow when you shut the doors, and rode a hell of a lot rougher! Toyota has come a long way in 19 years.

Congrats!! Do you feel that you have to constantly twich the steering while driving on the freeway? If so, go get a better set of tires ie. Nitto TG's or Revos. Those dunflops have soft sidewalls and are known to cause steering vibration due to their cheap construction. Then afterwards, sell the dunflops for $250-$300 easy. I'm sure you already know this. :hello:

that is just so tempting, i might just do that.

I've not taken my vehicle on the highway yet, however, I did test drive a V6 and the V8 and didn't notice this twitching.

I will most likely buy some BFG KO A/T tires for the winter. Thanks for the advice.

The fronts skid plate doesn't look as good as I thought it would... any larger alternatives out there?

Nittos and Revos are much better than BFGs in the snow and I can attest to the Nittos being considerably better in any kind of wet stuff.

I would also consider the Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor too along with the BFG AT KO. Both of these tires have the snowflake-on-the-mountain symbol for severe snow traction.

Welcome back to the family... I LOVE black 4Runners. Before my current 4Runner we had a '91 since brand new and loved it. So far my 03 is proving itself, however I am tempted to trade it in for the '06 in Meteorite Metallic or white... Either that for a nice GX470
