Back-Up Camera Question

I recently bought and installed the Z130BT from Pioneer. I have the Pioneer back-up camera that I still need to install. I've done research on this sight for instructional help but since I'm not so good with this stuff I don't get the schematic diagrams. So on to the question....

Can I just hook the pos/neg wires (the only two other than the AV) to the reverse light since I'm already back there and only run the brown AV plug to the head unit?

My thinking is that the pos cable to the reverse wire in the front will power the camera when in reverse or the reverse light will do the same.

If you wire through the backup light it should come on only when you are in reverse. The other option is wiring it to a switch so you can turn it on any time; driving, in park, not only when in reverse. It just depends how you want to use it and if you want to wire a switch or not.

Don't know if you have a solution or not, but there is a violet/white lead out of the Power Cord on the Avic-Z130BT that will detect the reverse signal and display the rear-view camera picture on your HU...the brown RCA from the RCA Connector will make the switch. I'm in the process of adding the Koolertron Rear View License Plate Backup CMOS Camera to my 2010 SR5. I would love to know how your solution worked out...

Unrelated- but does anyone recommend a brand/model of backup camera? The pioneer one for my AVH-P4400 is like $200 which is unbelievably over priced.

I did a search on BestBuy and also on crutchfield and found some ranging anywhere from $100-180, IIRC. I've heard some are better than others, but just because it's cheap doesn't mean it will last, so make sure you read the reviews on them. BestBuy always has at least a few reviews, which helps....

I finally got time to install, I just connected to the switched power wire and hooked the plug to the AV2 plug. Can turn it on whenever and works great, thanks for all of the help.

I love this forum! I've had a pioneer AVH-P3200BT installed for a little over a year and am finally considering the backup camera. Great info guys! Oh, and 'Bump'!
