Backup Camera Final Install (Pics)

Ok I finally finished the install on this project. I started out thinking about mounting the camera in the bottom bumper. I then decided to move the camera up to the stock backup camera opening on the lift gate. I then realized that this was still too close to the bumper for my comfort. The final location was the spoiler. This required that I drill a 1.125 inch hole in the spoiler. As you can imagine, that was the scariest part. Once this hole was drilled, though, it was all cake. Here are some pics.

Your setup looks great. How much did the infrared red night vision cam cost you?

I am thinking of waiting until I get a DVD-Navi sound system before installing a cam. I got one of those cheapo license plate cams with video component hookups. I was thinking of just using a portable DVD player w/7 inch screen mounted somewhere inside of the vehicle.

The camera, off ebay, was around 70 dollars. It has 9 infrared leds that give it a solid 15-20feet of night vision. The DVD-Navi system you are talking about would obviously be the best setup, if you can do it. The other setup, with the dvd player and seperate screen, will work. The only thing is that you will need to manually turn the system on, where if you use a DVD-Navi system, it will have an auto on feature.

Thanks for the fast response. I believe I paid around $99 earlier this year for the license plate cam with its own small visor monitor. I've just been too lazy to seek out a mounting point and running the wires thru the back door. I do NOT want to mount it as a license plate bracket (too easy for a thief or vandals to steal/mangle it).

This is pretty sweet. Looks nice and prof. at the top where you mounted it. It was funny, as I started to look down the list of pictures you took my heart started pumping watching you drill into the spolier Pretty Cool! Anyway great install.
