I'm sure it's probably similar. There has to be a reverse sensing wire.

Let us know if you do this. It's on my list, but that list is getting pretty long. I'll probably put the switch in one of the blanks in the overhead console, maybe where the Toyota SOS thing is supposed to go.

I'm waiting on that for the 2010 4runner. You'll notice towards the bottom it says " ACTIVATE FACTORY OR AFTERMARKET CAMERA IN ANY GEAR WHEN DESIRED NO EXTRA SWITCHES - USES SIMPLE RADIO BUTTON PRESS TO TURN ON OR OFF"

Turn Rear Camera on when wanted
Has anyone done this modification yet to their 5th. generation 4Runner? Turn on rearview camera when ever you want to.

I have not done this since I have the Nav system but in investigating a project that I have in mind I can tell you that the mod below will work in the '10 4runner with the mirror display. The pin numbers and locations are the same, however the wire color is different on pin 1. The Pin 12+v(acc) is light blue.
There are a couple of different ways one could do this. If you wanted to also trigger the backup lights you could leave the red wire uncut and just splice into it. The +12 would back-feed the Rev. relay and trigger the back lights. With a double pole switch you only back-feed the Rev lights from the parking lights.
to do the same with the nav unit you'd feed +12 to pin 5 of plug G18. I've played with this and can confirm that it works.

Camera Modification completed.
Did the camera mod. on my 2010 SR5 to turn on at any time I want and in any gear while I'm driving. Not too bad a job. Just tap into the group of three wires on the left (red,blue,white) under the cover above the mirror (Blue wire is 12V+). Tap into the blue wire (do not cut)and then cut and splice into the red wire. I used a 3 post switch. Note: when I was done the Check engine light was on . Only had to disconnect the battery cables for a couple of minutes to reset. The switch in one position acts as the camera always has (only comes on when in reverse) but when I flip the swith it comes on in any gear selected moving or stopped as long as the key is on. Now I can check on my motorcycle trailer while I am driving!

Guys have done it. You need to figure out which lines to tap. Check the aftermarket stereo thread an ask one of them.
