Bad balancing?

Hey guys I just recently got a set of new BFG's put on my truck and had a local tire shop do all the work. I paid roughly $900 for the tires, mount and balance, and 4 wheel alignment. My problem is, my truck shakes like hell at 55 plus and I've got back literally half a dozen time to get these retards to fix it and every time they say it's good to go, it's not and continues to do it. Are these guys ****tards and don't know what they're doing? Do I need to pay more $$ and go somewhere reputable to get it done right or are my tires just ****ed for the rest of the life of me having them on my rig? By the way, they're starting to wear unevenly on the outsides which is pissing me off considering they're less than two weeks old.

2 weeks and you're already seeing wear?? If that's the case, then there's more than just wheel balancing that's an issue.

All 4 corners? Just the fronts? Just the rears?
 
What's road force? Yes, you heard me right. They're wearing on all 4 around the out edge of the tires. It's on the tread but right where the tread meets the sidewall if that makes sense. I'm pretty pissed about the whole thing

Also, if your "shake" is just in the steering wheel, it may be time for new OTRE/ITREs and Steering Rack bushings.

The crappy balancing of your bigger tires is making the age/wear on your other suspension/sterring parts more prominent.


Upsizing (and switching to a more off-road type) tires and adding a lift usually brings about all sorts of minor issues.

Just Search the forum for "Front End Vibration" or "Steering Wheel" shake and you'll see that most thread starters begin with "I just installed Tires and/or Lift..."
 
The tires I just installed were only maybe an inch bigger than the previous size. I didn't get a lift either, I wanted a slightly bigger tire that would fit perfectly without rubbing and that's what I was recommended.
 
I am having the same problem you are with my new tires minus the wearing because mine isn't my daily but I think the other guys are right that it is probably your LBJ/OTRE/ITRE and steering rack bushings. I know mine are probably done for with 225k miles on them.
 
That blows. If I would've known that I would've fixed them before I got new tires [emoji31] oh well. I'm going to try and get someone to do a road force balance on my truck and see what goes down. Hopefully I didn't give my local tire shop hell for nothing. Lol.
 
On that note, would the lower ball joints and inner and outer tire rod ends make the car shake all over? I've looked at all of them and they looked pretty good intact.
 
Gotcha. I need to check that out. I'm going to try and get a road force alignment done by the end of the day hopefully. Then I'll go to those.
 
Yeah, my bad, my alignment is all good. Luckily the shop I was going to call has a hunter. Thanks a lot dude for the suggestion! Hopefully they'll get it all squared away
 
Maybe I've just been lucky but of the dozen of tires I've bought in my life that have been AT's from 32"-35", installed by discount tire's in 3 different cities, I've never once had a bad balance. Same with my family and my friends. How are y'all getting so unlucky on this?
 
We're not. It's just because the majority of people don't start threads titled "My Balance is perfect and my rig rides smooth".

Meaning that it LOOKS like a lot of people have bad luck with Wheel balancing but it's only because the only people coming on this forum seeking advice are those that ARE having problems with the balancing.

Even at the size of the memebrship on T4R.org, we only represent a very small percentage of T4R owners.

It's also the reason why most of us have the fear of God instilled within us about our LBJs and Pink Milkshakes, when in fact it actually only affects a very small minority of T4R owners.

I get that but just seems like it's more common on this forum than any other forum I've ever been on. Just an observation of mine.
 
What I find strange is ALL 4 tires are wearing on the outside edge after only two weeks?? That just can't be right. Especially in the back. It's a solid axle and unless something's way out of whack, to have that kind of wear without some kind of steering pull is very odd. Did they rotate the tires from front to rear to cause this wear? Outside wear on a tire is caused either by a toe in condition or a positive camber condition, either of which condition in the rear would be a major problem.

OP, did you have any problems before the tire install?

I can tell you this, after repairing 1000s of balancers, 75% of the time a bad balance is operator error, especially on bigger tires or custom wheels. Guys just throw the tire on the shaft, spin it up, and expect the machine to give accurate results.

OP, take some pictures of this edge wear on your tire. Also, a pic of your alignment print out.

Kind of but not necessarily. Just seems like this forum more than any other I've been on has bad luck with tire balancing. I dunno. Maybe 4runner's are more sensitive//susceptible to a bad balance job than other makes/models.
