bad engine

i just bought a 93 toyota 4runner with the 3.0 v6 3vze. Got the engine torn down to find out the crank shaft is broke. How does that happen? Not oiling properly? Over reving the engine?

Who knows, could be a clogged oil journal and it overheated and snapped? Could be a one in a million thing.
