Bad Gas Cap Seal

I need to replace mine. I'm tired of the Christmas tree dashboard. Do I just replace the whole gas cap and done? Is it the same as a GX470 gas cap? Thanks.

I don't think you can buy just the seal/gasket without getting a whole new cap, but if you are delicate you can use a dull edged flat blade screwdriver and remove the gasket from the new cap and slip it over your original cap. This way you don't lose the tether.

That is incorrect, you can get just the seal, and I just did this last month for my 4runner;
There were no CEL lights on, but I felt there were no resistance when I would remove the cap and since I have a long trip in plans at that point, I have replaced the seal, got is from my local Toyota dealer (around $8.00 including tax);

I don't think you need a new gas cap if it's not broken. I just replaced a gasket (77316-33042) on the cap which was much cheaper.

Agreed, you can get just the gasket from Toyota but if you have an auto parts store nearby you can just buy the entire new cap and pull the gasket off of it. They cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $13, and you get to feel smug about recycling the unused plastic cap when you are done.
