Bad mpg's

I'm a bit disappointed with my current mpg's. I've cleaned MAF and TB, replaced fuel and air filter, and new spark plugs. I'm running stock size tires and I'm still getting <15 mpg. I'm not the most economical driver (being 16) and 90% of my driving is in the city but I feel like I should be getting much better than that. My only guess is maybe an O2 sensor, there's no check engine light but maybe it didn't throw a code? What do you guys think might be the issue?

What exactly are you getting?
Prelift with my 265/70/16 michelin x radial LT2's @ 34 psi around the city driving conservative my mileage was like.. 14-15

Its normal man.. try to get more freeway miles

I was able to get 21 with mixed driving and over 23 with my 99 on the same tires you have, but very worn down. Check the air pressure, I was running 32-33 in all 4 tires. Also, try resetting the ECU by pulling the EFI relay. Most advice says leave it out for at least 30 minutes.

Being 16 doesn't help haha but you should manage a little better than that.

There is a reason old guys drive like, well, old guys...

I'm getting roughly 14 right now. I'm replacing my O2 sensor in the next couple days cause mine did throw a code. Hopefully that helps plus I'll be putting my 99 coils on at the same time. Between the sag and the poor MPG, I'm annoyed! :p

Not to thread jack, but while this thread is up.. Is anyone else seeing lower numbers because of winter gas? I know there's all these debates whether it does anything or not but right now I'm pulling like exactly 15mpg right now according to my UG. My drive to school everyday is exactly half a mile slightly uphill and I never get over 30mph so I know that's killing any chance I have of getting good mpg, but it used to be higher..

i seriously think someone is putting some bad crap in the gas this year to mark down the prices. Here in Utah it's down to $2.30 a gallon.

I too have been getting very crappy mileage. During the summer i usually get around 320 to 330 miles per tank. In the Past winters it would go down to 270 to 280. Now i'm only making it to a little over 200 before my light comes on. effers!

Yup. I was getting 150 at half and then around 260-280 before my light came up (13 gallons or so) and now im barely getting 80 at half :l

I've noticed the same thing. All summer I was getting around 17.5, and once they started switching the gas, it went down. I'm around 16.6 the last few tanks.

What plugs did you put in? Also on my 98 tacoma i replaced the fuel filter with an autozone filter and got crappy mileage, i then researched and found that the 3.4l only like toyota fuel filters.

Exactly....
My truck V6 is doing like 10 MPG in the city. I can see the gas indicator coming down at day with like 4 miles a day driving. Have everything stock and OEM parts except spark plugs.

I am considering going to a four cylinder 4runner.

Same issues here! I blame it on bad gas... it kills me! i used to get between 75-85 miles at a half tank, granted I did just put on a SLIGHTLY bigger tire (265/75/16) but that shouldn't take my gas mileage from 21 down to 16! OK... i'm done *****ing!

But on a side note how hard is it to replace the fuel filter? (sorry for the thread jack)

A tip: before you mount the fuel filter to the truck body, attach the fuel lines first. Use your hand to turn the bolts in the fuel lines when fixing.

What? So when you were getting good gas mileage you were hitting 80 at half? Thats terrible gas mileage lol..

Update for mine: About 70 miles of stop and go city driving (up to 55 mph) and another 100 miles on the highway netted me 17.7 mpg: this is with my tires aired for street driving and a 3" lift. We'll see how i do once the weather warms back up since i just installed my lift over winter break.
