Baja rack with Gobi ladder problem

Hi Guys, my Gobi ladder finally came in and thought it would fit with my Baja rack seeing some of the other guys here have done it. The top of the ladder, where is says 'GOBI' comes into direct contact with the back bar of the Baja at only half open. Any suggestions?

Ran into that myself, so I grabbed my angle grinder and took off enough to allow the ladder to clear the rack. It still barely rubs on occasion. Repainted, then put additional black tape at the rub location on the Bajarack. Don't know if you can clearly see in the attached pic.

Dude, I was afraid of that. But I do love my angle grinder, haha. What do you have as the decking on the rack, it looks great!!

I have the same setup. Just learn to deal with it. I've had mine setup that way for something like two years now, and there's no rust or powder coat issues.

I think angle grinding the welds at the top of the ladder would weaken the ladder at the point where it needs to be the strongest. What do you think about girding away at the rack?

I'm getting deeper and deeper into this problem. I think the only option is cutting this portion of the rack out. I'm hoping it will not completely weaken the structure.

The "crushing with a vice" -mod, lol... is futile

Posting this for those thinking about this set up.

No, it's not clearing now, or will it ever doing the math. I have deduced my rack must sit further back than yours and the others, because the hitting starts when the hatch is not even halfway open.

I will post pics of the cutting of the back tube and welding of the openings when I get my SW sliders on. Dave at Brave Motorsports here in Houston will hopefully give me a hand w the welding.

Can't you elongate the roof rack bolt holes so you can slide the rack forwards a bit?

That's a good idea, I will get back with you on exactly how much play forwards and backwards there is. Thanks!

Never mind. Ordered Gobi Stealth rack and ladder. And jack mount. And axe/shovel mount. Problem solved! :humble:

I have the Baja flat utility rack with a Gobi ladder and have no contact issues.

Both were purchased and installed in 2015.

I believe one vendor (or both) made some changes along the way when this issue came up.

Will post pics after lunch.

Baja Ladder

Baja makes a good ladder. Before buying a Gobi ladder I'd consider looking at getting the Baja Ladder to go with a Baja Rack.

How do you climb something called Baja when what you really want is to go ariba? :jk:

I had a baja ladder on my 3rd gen. When I purchased my 5th gen, I called them asking about the ladder. Basically I was told they have it, just can't sell it yet.

For reference, here is my Baja Flat Utility Rack mounted with Gobi Ladder.

Both purchased and installed in 2015. As mentioned in my previous post, I believe one of the vendors addressed the clearance issue.

Mine clears perfectly with no modification and no rubbing.

Hope this helps with anyone making this decision currently.
