Balansing issue with Duratracs. Shake/vibration. Ideas?

Hey guys.

Just wanted to pick your brains.

I had new 265-70-17 Duratracs purchased / installed / balanced couple of days ago at Good Year Tire service.

First issue was wheel shake started at around 55 and went away around 70.

I took it back yesterday and they rebalanced front wheels. They told me that they where out of balance and now they are good.

Now issue is even worse. Wheels shake still there and now I can also feel vibration with my feet.

Called today again. Explained them the issue. Guy said bring it by tomorrow and they will try to Deflate and rotate the tire on the wheel and then re balance and also check for out of round.

It does sound like out of round issue to me. Any Ideas?

Background story is. My 2007 T4R SE has Spidertracks and DS lift. I did asked them to make sure wheels torqued to 85ftlb.

Never had shake/vibration issue with OEM tires before they put on Duratracs.

sounds like out of round to me. Need to road force balance them. It should show almost instantly if they're out of round then.

After doing a locator search for Hunter Road balancer I don't think that Good Year Tire service have Hunter Road Force balancer.

Anything I can request from them? How many times I should come back for this issue before I bring my OEM tires and ask for full refund and go buy Duratracs somewhere else?

It makes me upset that the brand name tire service cant figure out what is up with the wheels shake / vibration. (my ball joints are in good condition by the way)

I'm in the same boat myself after recently installing fj cruiser rims at this local shop. I did some research and found out you would either have to have a "road force balance" done or goto a toyota stealership and have them do a proper balance using a tool called "heweka adapter kit" which centers the wheel by using the lugnuts instead of the conical adapter most shops use.

I haven't called for a quote from the local stealer, but I hear it could be $60 or so. I will report back on results after doing this.

I will take this info to the Good Year shop tomorrow and see what they can do. If they are not willing to pay for proper balancing using proper tools... I think I will be asking for my money back. But I will give them couple more chances.

For what it's worth, Good-for-a-year tires are notorious for being out of round. My father once bought a set for his Chevy pickup and they went through multiple stacks of the tires in the warehouse before they finally found 4 of them true enough to balance. And when I got Duratracs mounted to new wheels from Discount Tire Direct last year, they showed up at my house with tape weights two rows deep around literally half the circumference of the wheels. It was unbelieveable. Goodyear has made oval shaped tires for at least 20 years, if not beyond. If you actually get a true set that rides smooth on the first try, consider yourself fortunate.

I will make sure they check for off round for sure. And if not fixed have them replace few tires until the issue is fixed.

Make sure they balance the wheel using the proper attachment for their balancer and you wont have an issue. I had it before on my old yota with different tires. I figured out that they weren't using the lugs to balance the wheels. once they did it right I didn't have the issue anymore.
