Ball Joints

What are people spending for the 4runner ball joints and tie rods? Might do this soon, but I want to get the cheapest price possible. It's hard to weed through the 22 pages and gazillion threads.

Me too. Is it possible to get the OEM ball joints through a parts house or rockauto, or do you have to go through the dealer?

The whole idea of using Taco parts sounds like a "downgrade" to me. A little bit of beef for a larger turning radius and contacting suspension and steering components? I guess if you just drive on the highway it might work for you (but then whats the point of beefier parts?) but if you actually use you 4runner off-road it just doesnt make sense. Im going to stick with 4Runner parts and if I start breaking TRE's and BJ's maybe Ill look into this again.

ok. so in reading most of this, i didn't see the year for the parts in question. so should the parts be from the same year as the 4runner? ie: 02 runner-02 tacoma?
and which tacoma? weren't there different versions? someone please answer so i can make my upgrade list in detail.

anyone with more info on this? what year parts? like i stated before, should the parts be the same year? which tacoma? :lightsaber:

The whole taco upgrade IMO is not worth it at all. Search the taco forums they have failures on both just like we do. Losing the turning is not worth it at all IMO.

Yea I have to agree. After running the Taco setup and going back to stock I realized just how much steering I lost.

The only part that is beefier is the tie rod, but the 4runner's is plenty beefy. The joint itself is the SAME exact size, and same crappy design.

this is where i went to get my stuff, while they do not have free shipping i ordered all new ball joints upper and lower, tie rod ends, bushings and cams and only was at $33 for shipping, thats not that bad if you ask me and their prices are cheaper than what i could get from the dealer with my discount and cheaper than camelback's...

im gonna be doing the whole front end on my runner here, im gonna be taking apart my current LBJs to see where and how they started failing, i have some play in them right now. they only are 2 years old and have maybe 40k miles on them, with only like 10 of that with a lift and bumper... WTF -yes i used toyota OE parts

40K and already failing? That sucks, I'm starting to think that's just the price to pay for lifting IFS trucks and replacing suspension/steering components is just part of routine maint.

i quoted 3 places for LBJ's, OTR and ITR
toyota parts zone, $516
my dealer, with a discount! 595.67
toyota parts overstock, 583.04

this crap is expensive! what does napa have and what are their prices? who has bought from there?

how much is shipping from toyota part zone?...
for suspension parts i would only buy OE, i wouldn't trust napa or auto zone or any of those other chain retail(or discount) parts stores... a lot of their parts are inferior in quality to OE.

idk man, i bought 2 LBJs, 2 OTRE, 4 cams 4 backing plates, 2 UBJs, and a few other odds and ends total was like 580 with $35 shipping... its not a bad price, especially knowing that its all OE stuff and not cheap knock off china crap

how long ago was that? and from where? i looked this stuff up 2 days ago and that is what it is. perhaps dealers where you and others are are cheaper than florida.

$500 is way too much. I can get Taco LBJ's, OTRE's, 4Runner ITRE's and boots for $400 shipped. That's all Sankei 555 parts too.

Also using all 4runner parts from Sankei 555 is about $360 shipped.

that was today from toyota over stock i bought all my stuff today to redo the entire front end. i ready had the new steering rack and bushings, new 5100s and two new LCAs, everything else i bought from toyota over stock. when im done i will have all new bushings every where and all new joints. ive been looking around for a couple of weeks to find the best price on parts, as im going to be spending over a grand in parts alone.

toyota parts zone is the cheapest i found at 575 otd! still.
