Ball Joints

DAMN! haha ok I feel a little better now, Ive been looking at all these scary ass LBJ failure pics and been wanting to order asap lol. Still gonna do it within the next few weeks just cuz. Did you end up ordering tacoma LBJs?

I'm not Zac, but I did get Tacoma LBJs. (Also stayed at a Holiday Inn last night.) And after having them on my vehicle for one day I won't go back to 4Runner LBJs and OTRE's. LOL

so is that part # list correct?
im starting to think of it as well at 130k.

my only question, how important would it be to do the inner tie rods while doing the outer and the lbj?
im thinking about just shooting for the lbj and otre for right now.

To my knowledge a bad ITRE would equate to highway shakes or shimmy's, not as bad as having a bad LBJ go out :wow:. If it were me I'd do the inner's to. The best way to check is when you have everything dissmantled and lift up on the inner tie rod end if it does not stay put (as in falls down or is loose) it's bad. When I had mine apart and lifted on the ITRE one slowly fell and the other fell as soon as i let it go...it should not move once you let it go...I know of no other way to tell. If you have the cash might as well replace them while you're at it...
Even though I just did my OTRE's I did not do the LBJ's or the ITRE's (quick fix inorder to get alignment done) I plan on doing this mod soon from LBJ's all the way in to the ITRE's ASAP with Taco parts! Great find, great forum! Thanks T4R!

I didn't see anyone replace the ITRE's?? If someone did were Taco ITRE's used, and did they fit? Or will only 4Runner ITRE's fit our steering rack?
Thanks,

Thanks,

This is essentially what I'm looking to have validated. I would like to do it all at once. Because I have already replaced my UCA's I'm looking at going back with stock 4Runner CV Axles and switching the ITRE, OTRE and LBJ's over to Taco parts FTW if it will all work together. :guitar3:

nah got the regular 4runner ones

Had the wife drive the T4R, and she came home saying "I didn't think there was anything 'wrong' with the 4R until you replaced the LBJs and OTREs. There's a BIG difference...it's so much tighter to drive now."

So has anyone confirmed the PN list on page 9? Looking to buy everything on Monday and want to ensure I'm going with the correct list.

so these just arrived, i got the OME from toyotapartsales.com and they were the stock 4runner ones.

Can someone tell me what tools they used?
and if they greased them or not.

Thanks

Two pullers, along with 14mm, 19mm, and _________mm sockets.

Don't forget new bolts that connect the LBJ to the knuckle and the blue loctite:
90080-10066 - at least that is the # for the bolts for 4wd models.

This is something to possibly note. The guys on ttora state their FSM gives a torque spec of 59 ft/lbs on the 4 bolts that attach the balljoint. Our FSM says 37 ft/lbs. Which one should you go with in that case?

I am not 100% sure but I believe it is 59ft/lb for the 96-00, and 37ft/lb for 01-02, but please check the specific year of the 4runner just in case.
