It was more "tinted" silver, not solid gray/silver like yours. My buddy did use brake cleaner to clean some parts. Would that have caused it?

Yea, I wouldn't be too worried about it.. Probably just some left over brake cleaner or the new parts not cleaned enough so they let off some metal residue. Enough to mix and cause the color change. If you're worried I would run it for like a week and just check it by sticking your pinky in the fill hole (lol) and see what the oil looks like. Should be fine. I mean seriously, if I can run that nasty thick shit in my diff for a week you should be ok haha.

Thanks for the advice. I'll check it in a week and see what it looks like. I was going to open up the diffs to top them off anyway.

I wouldn't worry about it. It's pretty common to have some flakes in the oil when you replace the gears. Just check your spacing to make sure it's within spec when you change the oil again in a few hundred miles.

Good news! I was able to get all the switches wired up for all the roof rack lights, and they all work great. Super stoked. And yes, the wiring was fun, but tedious. Here's a pic of the amount of wires coming through the center dash into the custom switch panel.
I need to take the truck out to a dark country road, and get some pics of the roof rack lights. Hopefully soon!
In other news, I found a place to mount my big ARB twin air compressor. It will fit where the intake silencer box used to be. I just have to move a relay box (I think that's what it is) over a couple of inches, and the air compressor just barely fits in that spot. I started making some mounting brackets for it today. Pics to follow.
I need to take the truck out to a dark country road, and get some pics of the roof rack lights. Hopefully soon!

Locked and Loaded!
So I finally got my ARB air compressor installed. I was able to make a space for it in the engine bay where the intake silencer box used to be. This is the big twin motor compressor, so it was a very tight fit.
On-board air is going to be sweet too.
Then I ran my locker air lines from the front and rear diffs to the compressor. I turned on the compressor to test it out, and it started, but then shut off after only about 3 seconds. I thought there was something wrong, and that I probably blew a fuse. After playing around with it for a while, I realized that it had built up enough pressure that quickly to automatically shut itself off. It was working fine.
Then I took my truck to a nearby city park with a dirt road, to test out the lockers. Hit the compressor and rear locker switches, and did some snakey zig-zag moves in the road. I could tell the rear tires were locked due to the way they were tearing up the dirt on the road when I turned.
Then I hit the front locker switch, but couldn’t really tell a difference. Oh, duh, I probably need to put it in 4wd first. So I put it in 4wd and hit the front locker switch again. It must have been working, because the truck sure didn’t want to turn at all after that. It was definitely locked.
Success! My truck is now double-locked! Can’t wait to try it out on the trails.

Yeah, I had to make some brackets to mount the compressor to the top of the wheel well. And the lights are all wired up, I just haven't had a chance to take pics of them in the dark yet.

Yes, It just barely fits. I had to move the ABS box toward the front of the truck about 3 inches. Luckily there was already another threaded hole in the inner fender right where I needed it. And I do have quite a few relays. haha

D'oh! Mine's a 97 and there is a lot more ABS stuff in that area. After looking, I guess it got changed in later model years. Very very clean work.
