Dang! I dont know whether to be sad for the truck or excited for the venison... ha

What happened with the headlight?? Have to redo the retro or can you fix it?

Not sure about the headlight yet. It works, but the light output is pointed toward the ground, even though the projector is pointed in the normal horizontal position. Maybe the cutoff shield shifted during impact? I need to dig into it further.

The mounts on the headlight are broken too, so I'll probably need a new headlight to put the projector into.

that buck is worth some good money in skin and meat and horn. should cover the 4runner damage when you think about it lol

A few better pics of the damage in the daylight.

The cop that came to the scene was great. All he could talk about was my truck and how awesome it was. He couldn't believe I made the bumpers, snorkel, and roof rack. He even wanted me to show him the lights on the roof rack, so I lit them up. He loved it.

Sucker jumped out from behind a bush. Hit it doing about 40mph. Initial pics of damage and deer:

There would have been a LOT more damage if it weren't for my awesome bumper!
Better pics of damage to come, if it ever stops snowing.

A friend is processing the deer for us. Mmmmm, Yummy!

That one had to die, bad genetics, and just plain stupid lol.

You can shoot at a deer all you want and you'll miss all the time. Slow the bullet down to 40 mph and put some headlights on it, dinner every time.

I finally removed all the broken parts and evaluated the damage. So this is how the truck will look for the next few weeks.

So the insurance company took care of me pretty good. Even gave me money to fix my custom bumper. I got $1400 from them total. So far I've only spent about $100 by fixing some parts with epoxy and buying used parts. I'm going to come out way ahead, but I still need to buy some new offroad lights.

Hello Bandit. I'm not able to see damage to the bumper itself in the pics. Was the plate steel dented or deformed? Thanks.

The rear corner of the bumper on the driver's side was slightly pushed back and down. It was about a 1/4" off. I put a hi-lift jack under that corner and jacked up the truck. I was able to bend the bumper back about 1/8", not perfect but close enough.

The other damage to it was the 2 parallelogram shaped openings in the front of the bumper. There used to be removable mesh inserts in each one, but they were broken. So I am currently remaking them.

Gotcha. This is very good evidence that your bumper design is solid. I've seen that you sell the plans and am leaning more that way as an option. Not ready to do anything yet but formulating a long-term plan and this is great info.

It's like the deer is so stupid that it's sticking its tongue out at you thinking it won. Anyways, glad to see your bumper stood up to that little surprise stress test. Glad you came ahead as far as insurance goes.

Sucks you hit a deer.. At least you had that gnarly front bumper to take the impact. Now you get deer meat! So any updates?

Mmmmm, I love road salt! Good old Michigan. This is just from driving around town on paved roads:

So most of the deer damage has been fixed, except the grille. I am still trying to decide what mods to make to an aftermarket grill I purchased. Here's what I have to work with:

I plan on doing a sotash type mod, but want something a little different than every one else has. Looking for original ideas.

I always wanted to get a grille and cut the smaller "ribs" out, leaving the thicker center bar with the toyota emblem housing, then put a mesh behind that....Half stock, Half Satoshi. Then if you don't like it, just hack it all up and go full Satoshi. (Just spit-ballin' ideas here)

That's pretty much what I did with my first grille mod:

It looked great until that stupid deer messed it up! I don't want to keep the center bar this time though, so that there is more space between the back of the offroad lights and the grille. The grille would have been fine if the lights didn't get pushed back into it. By removing the center bar, there will be a decent space between the lights and the mesh of the grille. I do want to keep the emblem though.

if you want to switch up your Satoshi you do the full mesh look(give you that extra space and then if you wanted the emblem, sketch up one on your CAD so its bigger and more of your style.(Custom haha) I've been debating if I do it to have it spell 4Runner... so you could do that as well! just a thought & my 2 cents.

Great minds think alike! I've been working on something very similar to what you just said. CAD pics to come very soon.
