Recently went on a week-long camping trip with the family, in the Manistee National Forest. Thought I’d share a few pics.
But first, the day before leaving for the trip, my son graduated from high school. He’s our youngest and leaving for college in the fall. My wife and I will be empty nesters!
On to the good stuff. Arriving at the campsite, all loaded up:
I really need some 861 springs for the rear suspension!
A few random offroading pics (nothing difficult, just dirt trails):
Played around on a powerline road:
Climbed this short but very steep hill:
I couldn’t make it up these longer steep hill climbs. I think it was because the sand was super soft, and I wasn’t aired down.
Interestingly, I would get about half way up and bog down to a stop, and when I let of the gas the truck would stall every time. Then it would take two tries to restart it each time. Not sure what was going on there.

Went and saw the Udell Rollways, which is basically a spot along the river where they would slide logs down a steep hill into the river, a hundred years ago during the logging boom. A small section of the 200 steps to get down to the river:

My son and I did a little fishing in the kayaks. Caught a few nice bluegills and sunfish:

Maybe if I make it back home one day with my truck I'll have to go wheeling with you. I don't really know of any places back that way to go wheeling other than Rouch's in Sturgis.

Spent the last couple of weeks under the truck cleaning the rust off the frame. Then used these:
I sprayed 2 cans into each frame rail. Then painted the outside with POR-15. Hopefully this will keep the rust away for at least a little while.

I have been getting P0325 and P0330 codes lately - Knock sensor failures. So I purchased some parts:
Two knock sensors, knock sensor wire harness, and intake gasket set. Gonna get this taken care of soon.

Nice, hopefully I'll get to do the inner rails this weekend! I have Eastwood for both inner & outer.

I just ordered 2 cans of green for the inner frame, I hope that's enough, one for each side.

Each can was enough to do one frame rail for me. So with 2 cans, you could do one coat. They recommend two coats. Four cans was just right for me for 2 coats.

Did you tape up any of the holes to prevent over spray?
I assume it would keep more of the paint inside too.

I did not. You need the holes to put the nozzle into. A little leaked out, but not that much.

I was thinking on the inner side holes & the bottoms. I'll be pulling the hose out slowly, who care about drips internally right? I'll be inserting the hose from the outer side holes. Going to do this now, Low humidity today! Thanks!

A little more work done on the dual projector project. Smoothed and painted the shrouds:
Painted the rear caps:
Made the aluminum brackets that hold the projectors:
@MTD has been working hard at making the custom headlight housings on his 3D printer for me. He sent me the first few pieces a while back. I had to cut the housing CAD file in half, because of the size. His machine can't quite build the entire housing as one piece. Parts as received:
Cleaned them up and epoxied the two halves together:
Test fitting the glass lens:
Lots more to come on this project.
