Bar stool project

So I took the seats out of my wrecked 3rd gen and want to turn them into bar stools. I've found some generic how-to's, but I'm running into trouble with the interface between the seat brackets and the office chair base.

Anyone have any ideas how to fabricate something to fit the existing brackets, or if not, the best way to remove them?

Cant offer any help, but I remember when I was younger my neighbors dad took some nice leather car seats he got from somewhere and put them on the base of an office chair and it was pretty cool. Post some pics when the projects finished!

They are going in my one car garage "bar" (aka unused space me and my neighbors drink in). The seats are the ones from my original T4R. The issue is that the brackets on these aren't at nice neat angles, they sort of bend off in three different directions for four brackets. I'm completely amature at woodworking, so figuring out how to do this has been a head scratcher so far.

Just keep the screws pointing down or it could end up being more of a butt scratcher than a head scratcher haha

What about mounting the existing brackets on the seats to a home made adapter fab'd to fit both the 4runner brackets and the office chair?

What if you didn't use the brackets/feet? Take 'em off and find a way to mount the seat by the rails? You may have to do some angling to make the seats sit right...

To put Mazda seats in my 96 I took the feet off and mounted a 1x1" square tube to each rail, then mounted the feet onto the tubes. I don't think you need the feet, I'm not even sure you'd need the 1x1s.....

Heck, I don't know what you'd need. Just some out-loud thinking...
Mazda seat rails...don't remember what the 4Runner seat rails looked like, you'd have to deal with that part.

the rails look a lot like that Mazda set up. How did you get them off, and how did you mount the square tubing?

IIRC (been 5 years)... the seat feet were riveted on so not too hard to deal with via grinder. The hole that was left behind by the feet removal served as the place I ran the bolts through, that's where the bar attaches to the seat rail. Because the rail on the seat is not flat I drilled a couple of holes in the 1" square bar to fit those parts into, so the bar could sit flush on the rail. I don't believe I took the rails off, just moved them backwards and forwards as necessary to gain access to where I bolted them to the bars.

Thanks, that was really helpful. I'm going to hit this project up in the next two weeks or so, but no promises on how fast the progress will be lol.

The seats will be used as bar stools in my tiny garage/bar which is currently out of use for the cold snap, so I hope to have them done by spring
