Basic Nav add-on for dummies?

Hi folks
I saw lots written about adding navigation. It looks complicated. Many said to replace the amp, speakers etc. I have a ’11 SR5 w/ the basic 1Din sound system w/ Bue-Tooth & honestly like the sound. I would really like to add navigation. I don’t need anything too high tech and want to keep the price down (w/out going so cheap I regret it). I’d like GPS, Maps & to be able to use lattitude & longatudue and be able to use it off road. The feature that allows you to access the vehicle computer is cool but not needed. What do you recomend for a solid basic unit that’s not a bear to install and dosen’t require a new amp & major re-wireing?

Hard to belive no one here has gone down the same road. I suppose most just replaced the whole system?

Honestly, the cheaper route, for a quality system that can be upgraded regularly would be a tablet with a GPS app. There are LOADS of applications available that can be upgraded via wi-fi, and not just for nab - all kinds of overland or trail stuff. You can start with a used mini-tablet on ebay or Craigs, or go with something like an iPad pro. No re-wiring needed. Best, you keep the system with the sound you like.

Just my personal point: I don't like the look of aftermarket systems in the dash. They almost always look like what they are - an add-on that isn't supposed to be there.

Thanks paulndot! You make some great points. I really hate to spend $600 - $800 on a whole new radio just for navigation when I like mine just fine.

I’ve been using Google Maps as my iPhone 6 as my nav / GPS. It works well but I can’t figure out how to have the voice sound to come through the bluetooth radio.

I post that as a seperat topic.

GoogleMaps on the iPhone with sound Bluetooth'd through the stereo system. Perfection.

I've never been able to figure out how I can be having a hands-free phone conversation and the GoogleMaps lady interrupts to tell me something, why the person on the other end doesn't hear her voice.
