Battery Dies when Door or Rear Hatch left open

Is this normal? It's mostly for when I leave my rear hatch open when the car is off keys out of ignition. Sometimes it will happen if its left open for only 2 minutes. I've had it happen with doors too. Thing is the electricals turn on, but the car won't turn over unless it's jumped.

I'm electrically challenged. Is there an easy fix for this?

How old is the battery? Sounds like you at least need to give it a good charge.

No it's not normal, sounds like your battery is bad, have it tested at any local auto parts store for free, make sure they do a "Load Test", also while you're there have them test the alternator as well.

Not normal, test battery, or just replace it because that is most likely what you need.

Have the battery tested. Chain stores like Pep Boys and Advance Auto Parts should be able to test them at no charge.

The comment [MENTION=149207]AuSeeker[/MENTION] made about getting the alternator / charging system tested should be done as well... if that is contributing to problem, its only a matter of time until you ruin the replacement battery.

Even if all you did was measure the voltage with the engine running, should give you some indication if charge is even being put back into the battery.

I just went with the Costco brand. I have a battery tender that I use on my vehicles to top them off every so often if they sit for a while or just as part of my vehicle maintenance.
