Battery Disconnect/ O2 Sensor Code question

Going to replace a bad o2 sensor, giving a p00031 code.

Do I need to clear the stored code before I restart the car? I know that on some, you have to clear the codes before you start with a new sensor. I do not own a OBDII scanner, so I would just disconnect the battery.

So questions: 1. Do I need to, or will the car hopefully recognize the new sensor and clear the check engine light on its own?

2. If not, and I need to clear the code, if I disconnect the battery; will I have to initialize everything? Windows? Will I need to perform a ZERO POINT calibration?

3. If so, how you your guys suggest I do it?

1. You can stop by any autozone or advance and use their scanner for free.
2. You can pull the ECU fuse and it will reset. I don't like this because your ECU has to relearn everything
3. Disconnect the battery. This means everything has to be reset or relearned. Windows, stereo, clock, etc.
4. Wait for the code to reset itself. Not sure this always works or I just haven't had the patience to wait

Yea, I know that autozone has scanners and can clear the code, but I was curious if the code needed to be cleared prior to starting the car the first time.

It doesn't make any difference if you clear it before or after. Obviously if you clear it before, it could come back on. The only way you could clear it at the point of replacement would be to pull the power from either fuse or battery. To clear it with a scanner it has to be on. In any case it really doesn't matter.

If you have an android phone, this is well worth $25 scanner

You can't beat it for the price. Even the cheap harbor freight scanner is more expensive than that.
