I'm picking up a new battery tomorrow. I decided to go with an Interstate Mega-Tron 24F instead of the Duralast, and the others that were mentioned. I talked to a couple people around my area that have these batteries, and they had nothing but good things to say.
I contact a local shop, and was given a 10% discount of the $147 advertised price. This battery has a 30 month free exchange on them if something were to go wrong, and a 6 year performance guarantee. The 24F battery has 800 cold cranking amps, 1000 cranking amps, and 125 reserve cap.
Now I just need to find a new battery holder.

I'll give a thumbs-up for my Northstar 24F AGM battery. Same idea as the odyssey. Used and abused in plenty of winch pulls, -30 or worse daily cold starts, ARB fridge running 24/7, and I've let it run beyond flat multiple times. Always charges back up no issues. I've killed a couple of other batteries doing the same.

Yep, that's why I stayed with Exide. I had their (cheap) Classic 24F for 4 years & I let drain flat so many times that I figured their badass 24FX Extreme will last me a real long time. I still haven't bought myself a tender. Sometimes I dont start the truck for months.

Optima's website explains the difference in design and intent between the red top and the yellow top batteries pretty well. From my understanding, the Red Top is meant for starting where the yellow top is meant to sustain use over a longer period of time, even with the key off running exclusively off the battery, so different kinds of cells for different purposes

It's been mentioned many times on here & other sites about the lack of quality in Optima batteries since they moved to Mexico. I'd be pissed if a $200 battery only lasted a year. They'd never get my business again. 10 years ago they were the best now people are having them fail after 3 months. You can get a battery with better specs for half the price as listed in this thread & they actually last! If I was going to spend big money on a AGM battery I'd buy Exide, Northstar or Odyssey. They blow Optima's away.

I'm personally done with Interstate Batteries. I bought a MTP-24F last July. Noticed the voltage at 11.8v at key on before I start it. So I tested it with my MidTronics tester and it was rated at 660cca instead of the 800 it's rated for. It still starts the toy just fine in these really cold temps. But it's not the battery it's suppose to be. And interstate says it's a problem with my vehicle not the battery. Bullshit. So I'm done with them. I'll get something else for the toy and put this in the CJ7.
The local napa place I got the battery from has a higher model MidTronics tester that also records battery health and it said bad.

What's a reasonable life expectancy for the OEM batt? Mine (purchased 4R new 9/14) looks like it's on its way out.

I recently had to purchase a new battery, so I'll share my $0.02.
The Duralast Platinum (according to the Autozone guy) only has a 3 year replacement warranty while the Duralast Gold has a 3 year replacement followed by a 2 year pro-rated warranty.
If you're looking for cheap, go to your local Interstate store and ask for a 'blem' battery (blemished). My understanding is that these are batteries that have some visual defect, are returns, or sat on a shelf too long. They only come with a 6 month warranty, but for $45 I'll keep buying them (I don't have a winch, and 99.9% of my driving is local). I don't think you really get a choice, so mine only has 650CCA.

Dont forget people, those Wal-Mart Maxx-Start's are excellent too.
It has a 3 year warranty. I got it from autozone. Brough it back, dropped it on the table and got a new one with new 3 year warranty. People swear up and down about odyssey yet they have bad reviews.
Can never win and can never get the best. It is what it is. I think -30 weather and the truck sitting for 2 weeks. Plus winching and accessories killed it.

- Gates sold Optima to Johnson Controls who moved the manufacturing to Mexico...a dozen plus years ago.
- I've had two original USA-made Optima's which have worked flawlessly, both went 9-10 years in life.
- recent Mexican-made Optima is overpriced junk, with only a 3 year warranty / too many "short life" problems
- I stay clear of the Optima brand now
Yesterday, installed the following battery, with a 1x6" cedar deck board under the battery...to get the correct height.
- Canadian Tire Corp glass mat batteries have a full 5 year warranty, but in limited size groups...cold cranking amps @ 775
- put the same AGM battery in my wife's RAV4 (2 years ago) and got an older one in my John Deere 318...problem free

My friend that's the parts manager at the local GM dealership bla bla bla says that the Toyota batteries are Interstates. The serial number on the battery may tell the story. The GM and Toyota dealership were a joint venture and was in Toyotas parts room for around 8 years.

Since I haven't seen the Deka name thrown out, I'll chime in. When my Diehard Platinums recently kicked the bucket, I switched over to Deka. They are really close in spec to the Odyssey, but quite a bit cheaper. I picked them up direct from the warehouse, but you can get them other places as well. So far I have zero complaints, and they seem to handle the ARB fridge better then I remember the Diehards doing when they were newer. We also have their basic starting batteries in a few of the other cars, and have good luck with them sitting for weeks at a time and remain charged. They also seem to take a beating when they sit for longer and need a recharge to get them going.

I was changing wife's battery outside 2 years ago, in sub freezing January weather (with a nasty wind chill factor).
- my bare fingers, froze up quick / and back in the house, to warm up
- had to come up with a fast solution, given the insufficient battery height / so cables would easily connect
- needed something an inch thick, and left over cedar board cutoff (from a deck build)...worked perfect

Depends on maintenance & weather, and whether you leave it in the discharged condition for longer periods of time, and whether you recharge a dead battery with the alternator (heats it up) or with a trickle charger (more gentle), and lots of other factors such as the space under the plates for debris to fall into without shorting the parallel plates in the cells - but five years isn't too long as an average, give or take a couple of years.
