Battery Jump Starters (You should get one)

I’ve seen there have been several threads recently on replacing batteries. I highly recommend buying a portable battery jump starter. They really do come in handy.

I bought a Audew Battery Jumps Starter. It’s saved me from a dead battery several time. I highly recommend getting one. This is the one I currently have. Audew Portable Battery Jump Starter

I’ve seen another brand called Andeman. Looks identical to the Audew. Andeman Portable Battery Jump Starter
The only issue I had with it is that the “Boost” button that you need to push for a jump start is small and black. It’s almost invisible on the plug. It was a little frustrating looking for it the first time.

I’ve also seen several tow trucks carry the Noco brand Noco Portable Battery Jump Starters

If anyone else have any recommendations post them here.

I have an Audew as well...which I picked up on amazon a couple years back. I haven't had to use it yet...but I put it on the charger every three months as they recommend doing.

I have a Weego (I think it's this one Weego 44s Jump Starter | 440 Cranking Amps | Advanced Voltage Design) in each of our vehicles that I've had to use a few times. Even when I've had a dead battery in my own garage, sitting next to the other car, it's easier than dragging out the jumper cables. I got it mainly for when we're camping, and the odds of finding somebody to give you a jump in the middle of nowhere is near zero, but thankfully haven't needed it in that situation yet.

I have the good old jumper cables and an autowit supercap 2. I've never got to use the supercap yet but I'm going to test it out on an old 1980 sportscar that hasn't been started for 3 years in a couple weeks. might need a trickle to get some juice in the battery so it registers with the unit but I'm hoping it will start

the real test for all these jumpers is in -40*C weather when batteries are most likely to die. that's why I like the good old fashioned jumpers. you just need a second vehicle which sometimes isn't easy. portable ones are nice and for a battery that has recently died they can help get you going again quickly

My Miata has a race battery, so a jump starter is a necessity as it dies if not driven every few days or being on the tender. I use a Noco GB40 and it works great. I have never used it on the 4runner, but have no doubt that it would work.

100%. I did a ton of research and wanted something versatile for all power needs as well so I went with the GOOLOO GP4000 Jump Starter 4000A.

Supports fast charging and a USB Type-C charging port (5V/3A) and built-in light. Can jump multiple cars easily and has some built in protection.

I initially got the Noco but the GOOLOO was much better for my specific needs.

Good idea, but don't leave them in your vehicle in the winter. I left mine in my 4Runner, it froze and swelled up big, blowing off the case/cover. Lucky it didn't short and catch fire as Lithium batteries are want to do.

Probably 650+, more is always better. My GOOLOO can do just about anything, NOCO would be awesome too.

I have a GB40 that sat in the back pocket of my 4Runner for 7 1/2 years. It was never really thought about or recharged. Then came the day when I had a dead battery. I pulled it out and it was still 80% charged. It had no problem starting up the 4Runner.

I have since used it three more times and did recharge it after the first use. They are so small and portable there is no excuse not to have one or something similar.

I bought a Noco GB70 about 3 or 4 years ago. I've never needed it for my car, but I've been able to help a other people a few times. The Noco zipper case is nice to have.

Agree. Bought one on Amazon years ago. My brother was in the market for one so I decided to give him mine and bought a Noco GB70. No complains.

Just wanted to add my two cents to this thread.

After excessive indecision and time spent reading up on and comparing devices, I opted for the Noco Boost X GBX45. This is a newer and ~$25 more than the Noco Boost Plus GB40. Sort of the next gen of the same model but a bit more powerful (likely unnecessary) and has an upgraded feature I liked.

The one main reason I got this one rather than the less expensive one is that, rather than charging the device up at a slow rate via micro USB, this can be charged with USB C in much less time if one uses a wall charger of up to 60W. So there is less chance of me plugging it in somewhere and forgetting about it in the 6 hours it would take to charge with micro USB. I think it said 48 minutes with full power USB C to charge it up, but I cannot vouch for that!

BTW it also has an "override" button. The way I understand it: If the battery is completely dead, many devices will think that you have the red and black hooked up to the wrong terminals, and give you warning beep/light, and will not work. If you are certain about what you are doing, in that instance you can push the override button, and good luck ! ! ! :cowboy:

I saw that some people here had recommended Noco so I figured it was OK.

The Audew comes with a much nicer case, the Gooloo wants to charge you another $60 or so for a case. The Noco just comes with a bag.

The NexPow looks pretty good, but as with many of these devices, it is really hard to figure out from photos and accompanying documentation what exactly the features are. I think if it has a USB c that says "in/out" then it is capable of being rapidly charged. The Nexpow, I think I would have to do some digging to find out.

I just bought another jump starter, because I really needed 3 of them.

But I hoped to just get a cheap one for the third one.

Thing is, it is labelled as 3000A, but it was only $62, as opposed to the $129 I think I spent for each of the two quick charging 1250A Noco.

Now, how they measure the Amperage power etc. on these things is a mystery, the answer to which is not yet known to mankind.

But this third one that I bought, on Amazon, it does have an override switch, it says "boost" on it. It does not charge up quick but that's OK as this is my #3. So maybe someone can remember to recharge it every so often. It only charges with 18W of USB C, not 60W like the Nocos I bought.

Heck I might even send back one of the Noco and order another cheapo one, save myself $65 or so, maybe. Because two of them are for my dear housekeeping lady, who periodically has car trouble and tends to max out her AAA benefit every year.

The more economical brand is "Lenercom".

Like I said, just my $.02.

My several years old Noco GB70 is rocking USB-Micro, so definitely get a USB-C chargeable unit of whatever brand you choose.
