Battery Life??

Heat will kill them quick. Did they get low on water?
Wonder if a smart charger and an overnight charge two or three times a year would help? I've got a 2amp Ctek and I just put it on every now and then. Seems to help some. Takes about 12 hours each time.
 
It's incredible how long the factory Panasonic batteries last. I replaced mine back in 2012 when it was 8 years old; cheap insurance as I was about to head out on a long road trip. Fast forward three years to yesterday and battery #2 died without warning. I was out in Palm Springs this weekend (~100 miles from home) and I think the hot weather killed it.
 
Just replaced my oem Panasonic today. 2005 v8 146xxx miles. It was a good run. It had trouble cranking a few times then just wouldn't crank.
It jumped and I got home.
Put a new die hard in. See how long it lasts. The indicator indicates the battery is still good but it must not have enough crank power left to turn the engine.

Rip Panasonic battery.

What does everyone do with their old ones? Is there a market for the cores?

what color is the eye?

a few months ago I checked mine, I don't remember now if it was clear, or red, but it certainly wasn't BLUE. so I pulled the sticker off the caps, and filled them, then put it on a trickle charge for about 10 hours.

its now reading blue, and working great.

this is the OE battery on my 06 4runner, with 111k. the fact that the sticker was still over the caps tells me it had never been serviced before.

my point in all of that, is your battery may still yet be good.
 
It is still blue. Blue when I pulled it out and it wouldn't crank over. No doubt it holds some charge just don't think it is enough to crank the engine over.
 
Replaced the factory panasonic battery tonight. It made it 9 years and 115k miles. My wife called me when she got out of work saying her car wouldn't start and had no power for anything. Luckily I keep a set of jumper cables in her rig. She got jumped off and made her way home. I took it to get tested at Advance Auto parts when she got home and everything was good except the CCA's. They were around 440. Opted to go ahead and replace it.

What perplexes me is why the 4runner panasonics last so long but the others don't? The panasonic in my old 07 taco bit the dust at 45k miles. My '14 Tundra had 42k on it when I bought it a couple months ago and the OE battery had already been replaced.
 
mine lasted 8 years and replaced it in summer of 2012. I could have extended it more if I did not forget my keys in the car and fully discharged it.

I still have the battery and is keeping it fully charged for future use. I replaced my original Panasonic with Exide battery, same size. So far, exide is doing okay in my opinion.

Friday, October 16th 2015 I went to work, no issues. tried to leave work that afternoon, and NOTHING. just some dash lights and a click. shit!
I used a jumper box over the weekend, and replaced the battery with an Interstate 27F on Monday.

had a good run with that old battery. almost 10 years, 114k miles.

FYI, the eye was still blue. but when I checked, it was just above 9v.

come to find out, my park lights were on. how, I have no idea. I tried charging the battery overnight, but it wouldn't hold a charge for more than a few minutes. I think it MAY have lived longer, if it wasn't for the park lights killing it. but, still 9+ years isn't too bad...
 
2006 4RUNNER with OEM Panasonic battery

I still have the OEM Panasonic battery and never had any issue(s). Runner has 69,000 miles and moved around as an AD soldier. My question is do I need to replace it since it has been 10 years now? I plan to get the Toyota True-2 battery and replace it before it dies (FYI, this is my wife's rig) thats is why I'm concern about replacing them. Toyota True-2 battery cost $98.00 with tax included.
 
you are probably will be okay to keep using it especially if you don't have plans of doing a long drive. it may last a few more years. if you plan of doing a long drive, just replace it. all I know is a battery will just die at some point. it may be okay today but tomorrow, it will not start the car.

you can replace the battery and keep the old one as backup.

Thanks for the advice Bro. I decided to purchased the Toyota True-2 battery from the dealer today for $95 tax included. 60 months warranty with initial 18 months replacement. The toyota tech service guy told me the battery was based on age not the mileage of the vehicle since I have told him I have a low mileage.
 
good call to replace it. at least you'll know your wife will be fine driving it. peace of mind for you.

I need to replace my battery too. Bought a new 2008 and now I'm at 110,000 miles. What an incredible battery the Panasonic batteries are. Too bad we can't get these in the US.

Looking at Duralast Gold or Platinum on the AutoZone website and it says the following batteries fit our vehicle.

24FS-DL (480 CCA)
24F-DL (600 CCA)
35S-DLG (545 CCA)
24FS-DLG (575 CCA)
27F-DLG (710 CCA)
24F-DLG (750 CCA)
35-DLG (640 CCA)
24F-AGM (710 CCA) (Platinum model)

I'm thinking of getting the 27F-DLG. Had considered the optima batteries but read negative feedback since they moved their plant from US to Mex. Also have trouble justifying the cost of those, although the Duralast Platinum is nearly the same cost.

Ended up buying the Duralast Gold 27F-DLG. Cost was $161.44 in CA. It is a perfect fit in the tray. Took me five minutes to replace the OEM Panasonic. Seemed to fix one problem that had recently developed in my vehicle. Rear windshield wiper would randomly engage for a swipe or two at the time I started my vehicle, and then it would immediately turn off again. Now it does not do this after replacing the battery.
