Battery suggestions

I wanted to get a optima red top, but heard the quality has gone down. So what are the v6 runners running or can someone testify to owning a red top? Thanks

really, for the most part, a battery is a battery. the more important thing is the warranty that it comes with. i chose advanced auto for my last battery because it seemed to me like they would have the most stores nationwide where i could go in and get a free replacement if mine went bad.
 
Having issues with my yellow top that's not even a year old. Gonna take it back to have it tested and hopefully replaced. I'd buy a different one but this one should be under warranty and I just don't wanna spend the money on a battery right now. I've heard good things about the one at Costco though.
 
Thanks guys. I spoke to some guys at batteries plus and was told they stopped carrying optimas, because of returns. They said the red tops where coming back bad all the time and the quality has gone down since optima started out sourcing.

Bosch... 2 years now in my V6 and have two in my F250 diesel 3 years now.
no problems so far. Combined, the F250 has 1700 CA's and is demanding on the batteries. PepBoys carries the Bosch batteries.
 
Get a regular battery. It's a battery.

Specialty batteries means specialty stores with specialty hours and specialty prices.

When your battery fails, and it will, you'll be glad you bought from a national retailer that has locations every where that's open all the time and has a great warranty at reasonable prices.

yep, Walmart would also be a good option if they have the battery you need. you’d be able to get one 24/7 anywhere across the country.

Bosch from Pep Boys, Exide manufactures them. Like Walmart, Pep Boys is all over the place.

They usually have a 15-25% coupon code if you order online for store pickup (currently 25% as I post this), and the more powerful 27F size is actually cheaper than the weaker 24F. After the core exchange and sales tax the 27F cost me $106 and change.

The Toyota battery is a good bet as well. You're going to pay around 100 ~ 120 dollars anyhow. Why not get a factory replacement.
 
Super Start Platinum AGM from O'Reillys, made by Deka batteries. Its a rebranded Deka Intimidator series battery, good stuff.
 
Honestly I like high end batteries that are available on the market including the Odyssey, but as far as starter batteries go you can’t go wrong with an Interstate from Costco or better yet, the yellow EverStart Maxx from Walmart which has an even longer (5 Year) service life warranty and is manufactured by JCI / Johnson Controls. It’s a solid good quality regular battery at a good price.

I use the 24F in my V6, perfect.

I researched batteries for months. Looked at all the manufacturers. AGM batteries standard batteries and I couldn't decide. Then one day after 10 years of faithful service my factory Panasonic died on me so I went to AutoZone and bought a Duralast Gold. So far so good. The warranty is great and there's AutoZone's nearly everywhere. I decided I don't do enough excursions or running up the equipment that I would ever need an AGM battery so I saved myself a lot of money.

Not to thread jack but are these recommendations the same for V8s? I had an Interstate Megatron in my 3rd Gen for the last 5 years of it's life that was a beast. Hoping to get another for my 2004. The only thing out of the ordinary that I run off of it is my little VAIR compressor for airing back up after a trail.

I don't see why it wouldn't work for the V8, unless the battery tray is a different size...

The Viair compressor load isn't really that large, and you should be doing it with the engine running anyways so really the battery isn't as important as one might think for that. Any healthy battery will suffice.

Those Panasonic seem to really last...not AGM thought...they do leak.

I had just changed a 10year old Panasonic on moms 470 before she traded it off.
