Bay Area Off-Road Day in December '15?

I would say we head to the trail by 11:00 the latest from our meeting spot (which is probably reasonable given people will be showing up, fueling up, getting food, ect.), I'd like to at least be heading back towards town by about 16:00~17:00 the latest as I don't want to run the trail in the dark if I don't have to.
So anywhere between those 6-ish hours probably. I'm asking what people have mainly so I have an idea what equipment we have on hand if someone gets stuck and what comms we have; it's not a requirement, just gives me any idea of what we're working with so no worries. No CB, but what about HAM? (not the tasty kind

- 10k winch / straps / shackles
- Tow strap
- Set of treads
- Dual Band HAM

Not sure if I can be out for that long. Is it possible to back track and not get in a bind?. I hate to get stuck getting back out since I'm so new to wheeling. lol. I was hoping it would be a half day run.

Honestly I don't think we'll be out there that long, back tracking shouldn't be an issue; since you'd just be going back the way we came as far as I know. The trail is mapped so if you want to print out a map to follow that's fine, I've found my old Garmin picks up most forest trails as well so you can see if your GPS will do the same.
Well, I mean we start at about 11:00 and go until about 16:00~17:00 (4~5pm) the latest and by that I mean I'd like to be off the trail and/or close to off the trail and on a main road by that time. So that's kind of a half day.

That road is free game and you can pretty much take it all the way to hwy 88. It's more of a semi snow pull off from that side for snow mobiles. Last year bunch of us went well past NF7= Silver Fork rd.
Anytime we decide on a whim to run up there, there has been other wheelers up there playing, and help for recovery.
They just don't really want you to venture off the main road up there. Not saying it doesn't happen.

This was our April run, a couple threads down from this one.
I do believe this was his first SNOW adventure, so don't pick on him. And he's probably going to want to kick my ass for this...
Me and Jon was just past this point and this is about a 1/2 mile outside of camp... Mike made it to here and had 6-8" round rocks on the road in the snow... and for some reason it wouldn't get past them. Us having gen3 &4s, I asked him what all his model has for off roading. (me)You got it in 4h, (mike)yep, (me) (looking at Jon) I thought they kept making each next gen supposedly better.
ound:After looking back at this, the only thing we didn't ask him was, how low did you go. I'm pretty sure he needed to drop more air out.

looks like no go for me, we actually went today on my way to Tahoe.
It was perfect today. You guys should have fun but be careful, some areas were packed and it was icy slippery, especially downhill, I was sliding down with not traction for a few hundred feet.

Yeah, we found that out on the way back towards town. The Nittos did well on the firmer, icer stuff; though in the deeper non-sticky fluff you can see I got myself stuck a couple times. I just couldn't get any bite in that fluff once it got too deep. Didn't help that the 4Runner was finding all the deep spots that would give V_man a bit of difficulty. Lol the Runner must have really missed the snow.
Had fun though, we need to go again in January.

No pictures of my good deed for the day? Lol help that guy get his through loose and somehow managed to find the only unfrozen mudhole on the mountain and get stuck early on in our ride!
