Realizing that this thread won't apply to everyone, I just wanted to throw this information out there for anyone that might be in the market or looking into this sort of upgrade. I wanted to compile a list of all the BBKs that are floating around for the 4Runner community. Tacoworld seems to have a semi following with the SOS performance kit, which is what I went with. However, if you're into options lets take a look.
Stoptech makes a kit specifically for the 3rd gen which is the kit I started out with, an ST40 4 piston 355 mm kit. Requires at minimum 18" wheels to clear the rotors and calipers.
SOS Performance makes several kits that utilize Stoptech calipers with in house brackets. They're available for most Toyota trucks. They range from 4 to 6 piston setups and ranging from 340 mm / 355 mm / 380 mm rotor sizes requiring 17" / 18" / 20" wheels to clear. The setup I bought, they had to research to make sure it would work with my 4th gen, was originally intended for the 5th gen. All I needed were brackets to fit the ST60 kit to my 355 mm rotors that I took off my 3rd gen to put onto my 4th gen. There is also a rear BBK by them. The nice part of for the Stoptech caliper is that you can change the pads simply by removing 4 allen head bolts to get to the pads. RR Racing has a setup with Wilwood calipers. The kit uses a 338 mm rotor size and requires you to either figure out a brake line solution or remember to add one when you make your order. [MENTION=20456]Mike07SE[/MENTION] has this setup and [MENTION=167599]madmantwo[/MENTION] rr racing review
Rotora makes a front and rear setup. The ones seen on the forum are 6 piston fronts and 4 piston rears. Not much info on the webs about them except for the ones from [MENTION=114940]SOOTRD[/MENTION] TRD Pro Big Brake Kit and [MENTION=107754]Bonyfattony[/MENTION] Build Thread and [MENTION=67365]Whitebeauty[/MENTION] lowering 06 runner
Ceika brakes, is an Asian company, that'll make any kind of custom BBK you want to order for most vehicles out there. Their options range from picking 4 to 6 to 8 piston calipers plus sizing out the size of the pistons as well. All these options will cost you plus you can custom the caliper and logo if you want. Is it cosmetic? Yes. Is it blingy? Yep. Does it improve braking? Maybe [MENTION=66389]BlackWorksInc[/MENTION] Remember tires are more important than just brakes in the braking process. I know my reasons for doing it was for my own peace of mind. I plan on adding a supercharger to mine so I wanted to make sure I had the suspension and braking setup as dialed in as possible. I'll update the thread with some pictures later on as well. I just thought it'd be helpful for anyone looking into this sort of thing for their rig.
