Be Careful Out There 5th Gen Drivers - Storm Pics

We are expected to get somewhere between 24"-30" of snow Friday and Saturday. To all you guys up in the "civilized" part of the country be careful out there! The 5th Gen 4Runner is a great vehicle but it has it's limitations and deep snow definitely will get most anything stuck. Plus you have all the amateur drivers out there who will want to use your vehicle to stop their vehicle lol.

Anyway, use this thread to post pictures of the big storm of 2016! Good luck!

I knew I made the right choice, the Trail edition comes with brakes on all 4wheels. They must have had to remove part of your brakes to pay for the Pro shift knob :yield:

Drove in the snow for 4 years in Ohio, in a 1986 BMW E30, manual transmission. When we drove in the snow we just put cinderblocks in the trunk to get more traction.

I love the 4Runner, but 4WD empowers people with a confidence in their vehicle that's usually ***** slapped by road conditions out of their skill level.

I hear you, I hang out on the outside edges of some Audi forums (wife's car) and get tired of hearing everyone saying how awesome the Quattro is in the snow. As you said 4 wheel drive wont help you stop any faster then a 2wd...... even with a 4x4 dodge in college I had bags of concrete between 2x4's above the rear axle to help out in the winter. I bet that rwd BMW was a blast in the snow though

You do not know suffering until you've had to drive 10 miles on the freeway at barely 1mph because of accidents, and you're BARELY clutching out because you can't even put it fully into 1st gear.

I got home and thought my left shin was going to explode from the strain.

We have spent the night in the vehicle in a blizzard due to a sudden major pileup closing the Interstate with no place to exit. Warm layers, sleeping bags, munchies/drinks = no problem.

I was there for the storm in Feb 2010. Absolute chaos. It was a good time in my 2001 Tacoma though. Yall be careful though. All those yuppies forgot, as was already posted, that 4WD doesn't mean 4-Wheel-Stop! Also, many of those transplants have little experience in those conditions. Look what 1" of snow did to them yesterday!

Be careful and keep your oh sh!t kits in the truck.

I'll be driving home 50 miles from Columbia Md (work) at around 9pm Friday night, the storm should be in full swing by this time! I figure it should take me AT LEAST 3 hrs to get home. This drive usually takes me 1 hr during normal conditions.


I have a full compliment of water/food/blankets/recovery gear ready to go in the back- truth is I would probably be quite comfortable with my Jetboil, coffee, Mt House meals, and full comfy sleep setup if I were to get stranded on the road...:biggrin1:

Edit: And oh yeah, remember: if you do get stuck in a shitstorm don't park under a bridge overpass. We had a young military couple that did that years back out on I-70 between here and Kansas and the snow completely buried their Blazer from all sides due to the vortex.

Mom, Dad and newborn baby all died of carbon monoxide poisoning and then one of the giant snow plows hit them at about 35 mph and ensured closed coffin funerals. Sad.
