Beat up steering wheel leather and center console cover?

My steering wheel was looking like hell after 11 years and I had some damage to the top of my center console armrest cover. Decided to try one of the custom-fit leather steering wheel covers from Amazon that you have to stitch on and a pleather cover from eBay for the center console. Both exceeded my expectations and look like the factory parts the day I bought my truck!

I’m still unable to post pics for whatever reason but here are the links to what I used... and both were worth every penny. Steering wheel took some time but the armrest took 15 minutes start to finish

wow! the armrest looks good! I was just scolding my kids for picking at the cracks on the armrest. Definitely gonna give it a shot when the time comes. Looks like i'll chose black instead of the OEM gray.

It’s thicker than the OEM too. Mine got damaged when I had a pair of crutches laying across it on a hot day last summer and some of the vinyl “shifted” leaving bare spots and bunched up spots. Drove me nuts. Pretty sure that would not be possible with the vinyl cover because it’s thicker and sturdier.

Why wait if yours is already cracked!

I used a spray adhesive and a few of those black paper binders with the metal “wings” to hold everything tightly in place until the glue set, and even that was overkill. Feel free to hit me up when yours arrives and I’d be happy to talk you through it over FaceTime etc

Is your armrest still holding up? Was it hard taking the armrest apart to get the new skin on?

They’re holding up great! Still look like new

Taking it apart is pretty simple, even if you have two left thumbs. The one issue I had is that because I put it over the old one as opposed to removing it first, the latch wouldn’t hold securely and would pop open unexpectedly. I fixed that by taking the latch off (2 screws) and put a dime under it to act as a spacer. A simple fix that worked perfectly!

As for the steering wheel, it was more tedious than difficult per se. I took someone’s advice and borrowed a steering wheel remover from Autozone or advance auto (I forget which) and stitched it on while watching a movie.

There are videos on YouTube showing how to do both but I’m here if anyone wants more info!

Replaced my console lid cover this weekend. Was sort of fun. I like the outcome better than the padded cover many throw over it.

the cheap amazon, stitch on steering cover actually works very well and easy to install. Just takes a bit of time to do it. It makes the steering wheel thicker, and looks OEM which IMHO is a good thing.

I used a cheap amazon console lid cover, and am happy with it. I consider this a disposable upgrade. Replace it in a few years no big deal.

I’m sorry I didn’t see your previous post though I don’t think it matters what adhesive is used. Mine was a spray of some sort but any adhesive would work

Thanks. I used 3M Super 77 spray. I would advise against it unless you already have it. It gets tacky super fast-seconds-and if you haven't practiced getting the cover lined up in place perfectly, it can be a pain. A brush on, slower setting adhesive would be a bit easier.
