Beefing up Toyota stock exhaust manifolds

Hello everyone! Like many of you out there, im dealing with the dreaded, annoying ticking from our crappy exhaust manifolds. Its getting to the point where im going to bite the bullet and replace it. Thinking of buying an OEM replacement from Toyota. I know they're prone to cracking but there is not much aftermarket support. Is there any way of beefing up the OEM Toyota manifold? Say possibly welding around the areas most prone to cracking. My plan is to buy the parts from Toyota and having a local shop do the job. Any ideas?

I would check with some local speed shops and ask who does header work. It should be easy enough for a skilled welder. Drill out the end of the crack so it does not come back and weld it up. I have done some exhaust work on older 2 stroke exhaust systems which are paper thin. None of mine ever came back. Yours should be no trouble at all as it is thicker metal. The dififcult part is getting the header in and out.

If the exhaust manifolds are cast iron (which they seem to be)...then it might be cheaper buying new then repairing them.

Well yes that is the plan. I want to buy a brand new one from Toyota and possibly take it to a small shop who can give me some insight on how to prevent it from cracking down the road. Maybe beefing up the welds or getting some sort of coating to help prevent cracks

Why not buy the PaceSetters if you're going to replace? Guys have had good luck with them on this forum.

I was reading up on the pacesetter manifold. Seems like a nice alternative option. I've read the thread on the fellow member who made the swap but ended up with a check engine light or some sort of code that the O2 senor was reading more air flow than normal. I just dont want to deal with the headache of a check engine light or code showing up.

Been running the pacesetter replacement on the driver side since summer. Zero CELs and no leaks. I'm very happy with it considering I've got about $140 invested. I paid $233 shippped from Amazon and then took my old manifold to the scrap yard. The cats are worth some cash.

There is no way I'd ever buy the factory Toyota ones. That's like $700 for one side alone.

I'll ride with the OEM passenger side manifold as long as I can, then put the Pacesetter on that side too.

like zak quoted, when i first check amazon 4 months ago it was $211 tax free, up until 2 weeks ago it was $230 + tax, now its $249 + tax. so i ended up getting it for $265. btw- i am getting p0430 code and i swapped out, now, all 4 sensors :(
