First few pics are of my chopped exhaust 3,000 bucks later from insurance new cat. Prob should have taken the money and had some muffler shop fix it but to late now.

Wow. I work at a Toyota specialty shop and we had 4 cats stolen in one night. Cost to replace? 11,000 dollars (they took some of the other piping and cut some fuel lines and stole gas too. Also stole spare tires.

I want to know how the hell nobody heard the pipe being cut! I nearly went deaf doing exhaust on a couple of cars. $3000 for a cat? Man, I had no idea they were that expensive!

don't come to Texas, its terrible hear. My wife works at one of the local hospitals in the medical centre, she drove our tacoma and they stole it. Along with her bosses (drives a newer tahoe).

These guys are ballsy, because cutting pipes is fawking loud. And they did this in broad daylight.

My guess is that they use one of those chain pipe cutters. Quiet and effective. Sucks about the theft man.

FYI it is a federal mandate that u have to have a catalytic converter on your Vehicle. This also applies to states that don't have smog laws. Less chances of getting caught but the fine can be down right outrageous.

Funny, my car passed emissions without a cat :/ If anyone asks, it was already like that when it was purchased and you had no idea it didn't have one. Too many people are catless, so it's not monitored very well. There is the potential for hefty fines if the right person finds out you removed it yourself.

Now excuse my language, but HOW THE HELL does that cost $3k??? That looks like an aftermarket job anyway. What is this insurance company that is paying through the nose for this? :bluejump:

Another reason why I'm going to cut out my cat and replace it with a cheaper one that probably does a better job than the factory one. $90 you can get for these... a new one (for me, a dual inlet single out) is like $60. if anyone steals that one, I think they get like $30 maybe? jokes on them.

I have Hartford insurance. Parents found them. toyota had to install my flow master again since i had it on my old pipes.

who gives a crap. we don't smog, we don't do state inspections. I haven't seen any cops crawling under cars checking for cats around here lately. I also run non DOT tires on my motorcycle and illegal tint on my wife's car. There are so many dumb uninforced regulations I don't care to jump through hoops for.

Same thing happened to my son's '99 parked in his Community College parking lot during school. Campus police told him he was the 32nd stolen Cat this school year!

Went thru our insurance and had OEM Toyota replacement done, $1800 plus some custom welding due to aftermarket Magnaflow muffler.

Soon after the new one was on, we purchased and installed a CatClamp - a deterrent not a guarantee, I know.

Yeah I agree. Chances of getting caught not very likely but still would suck. I ran a catless Jeep GC for two year and even in Idaho where there are no emissions laws the is a 700 dollar min fine for removing cat and it is given to current operator of the vehicle. Pretty f'ing stupid to me.
