Behind grille light bar complete kits

Hi all!

I'm very interested in installing an LED light bar on my truck, in particular the behind the grille style. I think behind the grille looks clean and will help deter theft. I've had a few coworkers have their light bars either stolen or an attempt at stealing them.

Additionally I really like the idea of a complete kit to complete the project rather than piecing out all the items ( even though that may be slightly cheaper). I think it will just save me time and help expedite the installation.

With that in mind I found this Rago fabrication complete kit that seems to be pretty solid. https://www.ragofabrication.com/col...er-hidden-bumper-brackets?variant=36368644871

Do any of you have specific experience with this kit? Is this Rago kit truly a complete kit with everything needed for the install? It mentions it includes the brackets, LED light bar, and I can choose the option to include harness and switch. Seems to be complete. Also are there any other complete kits that I should be looking into?

just bend some aluminum stock or us L brackets, i can't figure out why people pay so much for these brackets
 
that's a great price for a complete kit! And the light is in a very useful spot.

I'd take that cnc cut, stainless, gusseted bracket with slots in all the right directions, over a bent piece of aluminium flopping around any day, or a piece of rusty angle iron for that matter.

Say what you like, that's a well designed product. And the complete kit is surprisingly affordable. Looks good OP. Post it up if you get it
 
does anyone make one for the upper part of the grille above the Toyota emblem or is it lower half only. looks pretty easy once the grille is converted to the TRD pro grille
 
Rago Kit

How's it going. I'm running the Hidden Bumper Brackets and led bar from [MENTION=139789]RagoFabrication[/MENTION]. Very solid kit and does come with everything needed to install. Install isn't very difficult but you may need help removing the bumper. As always the Rago's will tell you to watch the install videos on their website and ask any questions you have. If all else fails they have their direct number to call and get help over the phone.

Got this idea from someone else. No mount needed. I just drilled directly into the top frame support. More on the install can be found here.

The Rago brackets are nice. As said above, install is not hard but you will definitely want a second pair of hands for removing the bumper cover and watching the videos will show you what to look out for. The factory switch is nice. I did go with a different light bar though, a 30" 5 watt Black Oak LED. Remember your grill will block some of the light from the bar which played into my choice as well as I wanted a good quality bar because I wanted a bar that would last but didn't want to spend Rigid/ VisionX money. If your bar goes out, you will nee to remove the bumper cover again and like you said, the bar won't be as easy to steal. The first time you're running down a desert dirt road at night, you love having the extra light no matter what light you choose though.
 
I went ahead and ordered the Rago kit this morning. I put it in the website shopping cart last night but did not order it right away. I checked my email this morning and since I had not completed the order last night they gave me a coupon code for an additional 10% off. Awesome! Final price came out to about $217.

Not that I know of, but the 20" BajaDesigns S8 light bar mounts almost perfectly in holes that are already in the cross bar.

I just bought a Rago kit, I was a little disappointed that it with buying a full "kit" harness and everything it came with stripped wire pig tails on the light bar and not waterproof connections.

If I remember correctly, my concrete angle brackets from Lowes were less than 10$ for the pair. They are strong enough not to bend or flex in any condition outside of a car crash. They also required no modification to get the bar in the right spot.

Total piece of cake.

My only regret was not painting them black initially. But that is something I care so little about, I probably won't take the time to fix.

Do you have a picture of what angle brackets you used? May have to take a trip over to Lowe's after work. My light bar is currently just zip-tied on to the grille with heavy duty zip ties so inexpensive brackets would be a definite upgrade.
 
For those that can afford the angle brackets and mounting kits, that's great. I simply bought a 28" light bar and used heavy duty zip ties to attach it around the upper grill to hold in place. I zip tied at the extreme ends on the light bar so you literally can't even tell. It works great, holds it in place solidly and is a much cheaper option than the mounting brackets. Been that way for a year and never had any issues with it.

-high five- I did the same thing. It was always meant as a temporary solution but it's been like that for the past 4 months. Until recently, they worked pretty well. During night runs when the light bar was on, I could notice 'vibration' in the light spread, even though I tightened the zip-ties down. Finally, I went on a particularly rough run and the left zip tie broke. There was no damage or anything and I zipped it back up. I do think I'm ready for a more solid mount though, even if it is an inexpensive bracket. I may just end up getting the Rago down the line.
 
I've eyeballed a 2014+ and believe it would work similar to my 2013. I mounted to the upper bumper support. No brackets needed other than what it comes with. I have the 28" version:

When mounting these lights, using any type of bracket how close to the grill are they. Set back a inch or 2 or right up against the grill.
 
Less than an inch if not closer. The front of the bar doesn't generate enough heat to cause for concern IMO
