now that was a nice read. I am still not in love with the new body style, but I do admit its growing on me, but I will NEVER EVER part with Rascal.

that was a well-written article...I agree, the 5th Gen is awesome, and definitley worthy of the 4Runner badge. And why cry about no V8 when the new 6 is more powerful?

That is a pretty good article, very unbias even though he started it off sounding as though it would be. The 5th gen sounds nice, but looks waaaaay too much like the old FJ60s for my taste. I was so excited when they announced a new 4Runner coming out, but I hate it! I've loved every 4Runner body style until now.

I like how Toyota is going back to their roots on the styling...first with the FJC and now the 4R. The rest of their trucks are so generic, especially the new Sequoia...there's no way the same guy who designed the FJC and 4R also did the Sequoia. It's so bland.

It does look good now, I agree. Very nice truck. I still don't like them though. That's why they make more than 1 model; to suit varied tastes!

Wow, I'm the exact opposite. I loved all the generations of the 4runner until the 4th gens came out. They turned me off because they lost their great "truck-like" looks and IMO they got more of a lifted Subaru Outback look to them than that of a Taco or any of the older gens of the 4runner. That's actually why I've kept my 3rd gen for sooo long - I just couldn't give up my 13 year old vehicle for a brand new one that I didn't think looked as good.
And now we have the 5th gen. When they 1st came out, I was a bit skeptical and even talked a little trash on them, but I've totally changed my tune. I'm convinced Toyota bucked all the trends and made a great, off road capable, strong, great looking 4runner again - and turned it back into a truck again - and right when it seems like every other company is turning their trucks into hybrid SUV spacepods that would get stuck on the trails or snow in no time.
I love that the 5th gen tips it's cap to the Tundra's front end too. IMO, Toyota has made the best generation yet (and I'm surprised I'm saying that because I love my 3rd gen!). I am really really considering trading up for a 5th gen in the next month or 2.

styling? I, being a current owner of 3rd and 4th gen and past owner of 2nd gen, 3rd gen hands down. comfort? a toss up between 3rd and 4th. never cared to drive a 5th.
I think the worst overall is v6 equipped 2nd gen. capability wise, you can't beat solid front and rear axle 1st gen.
different strokes for different folks. I won't trade mine for the wife's 4th gen, she doesn't give a dime about my 3rd gen either, plus she HATES the manual trans. I guess the later designs are more and more housewife friendly.

I just can't get over the mast antenna and no V8. I'm trying to like it, but so far, it just doesn't do it for me. I will admit though Jesse1983 that yours is the nicest I've seen so far, but I have to have the V8, and no the V6 is not as powerful. The torque is way down on the V6...Can't pull my 23 footer with a V6.
I also can't get over the 20" wheels that the Limited's come with...blah.

I'm with brian2sun... I can't warm up to the 03-09 4th gens but the 2010 5th gen seems to me to be like a real truck again.
skibama-one of the things I like best about the 5th gen is Toyota essentially admitting a power antenna is just a waste on a truck.That is my take on the mast antenna deal...
I am so very glad that my 3rd gens power antenna just sits down in the fender all the time now. I have it on a manual switch and rarely bring it out of the hole for long distance AM radio.

And as you noted sir-I thought the newer Tacomas were a bit goofy looking and yes did resemble the Frontiers a bit too much- but I have warmed to those as well. My dream truck (right this minute) would be a lifted blue Tacoma double cab with 6 speed manny tranny and the coveted even if useless) hood scoop. To me those are just the cat's meow of the current lineup...
I typically pick up my 4Runners at 5 years old so I am very hopeful you guys will pamper your 2010s so I can pick one up in 2015 all depreciated and modded out! And you know the 2011s will be just that little bit better and so on and so on...
To date I don't see many soccer moms in the 5th gens and hoping I don't....:rockthrow:
Love hearing you guys discuss the newer vehicles in the line and I also agree with Liny4Runner that the Sequoia was looking too much like the Highlander with that slab side styling and fakey looking body panel creases.
Not sure if you guys have seen the newer minivans-the Sienna I guess it is- but the front end is very Scion Xb-ish in my opinion. I can respect the company's desire to keep their vehicles looking familiar to one another-but the copycat of styling cues is too much...
I saw the Siennas lined up at the stealership and I thought they were kind of lowrider extended length Scions it really threw me for a minute there. It's not necessarily bad, but in my mind it ruins the distinctiveness the Scions used to enjoy on their own styling merits.

Wise words. I totally thought the same about the Tacos too, but have since warmed up to them also. I think a '05-10 short bed standard cab 4x4 Taco with a nice lift, 33s-35s, and the 2.7 w/ a 5 spd would really make a mean off road machine! Especially if you camper shelled it and put some weight in the rear!
I am on my third 4runner, and I got all of them when they were each about 4-5 years old too Ron. I think now I may join you and wait until they depreciate a little. I'm definitely in no hurry to give up my 3rd gen, in fact if I bought another car/truck, I think I would probably hold on to my 3rd gen because it's paid off, it's a great winter/off road/camping vehicle, and I like it. A lot.
