belt squeak

So I have an question,

my belt squeaks in the morning and after a few minutes it goes away.

So, today I had it looked it and the mechanic sprayed some stuff on it and it was quiet. But, when I got home, It was squeaking a lot louder than before.. I was going to change it today but he told me it was good.

What would cause the belt to squeak?

Have this happened to you guys before? I'm going to change out the belts, I'm at 210k miles and the last thing I need is the belt to snap...

thanks.

Most likely Fan Belt if not Serpentine Belt.

Just needs to be adjust...but if it's been rubbing for awhile, swap it out, easy fix.

I've done a Serpentine Belt on a 1999 Toyota Corolla...mannnnnnnnnnn hecka easy.

• Replacement Serpentine Belt
• Draw a diagram how the belt is snaked around
• Open end/closed end combination wrench

Was done in 5mins.

so the 3 belts correct? The AC, Alternator and Power steeting?

thanks.

Correct, instead of tightening them up. Put some new ones in, the old ones are dried up and weathered hence the squeal. 3 belts with their own tensioner and not a serpentine style.

Belts squeak because they are either loose, too tight, or just plain old.

Check out the condition of them, if they are kinda frayed and old looking, just replace them, they are pretty cheap and easy to do.

If they look good, check the tension on them. One might need to be tightened a tad.

I think is been 60k since I had the belt changed.

I can't believe i had an spelling error lol.

When I had the belt looked at by my mechanice, he said one of them shows a little bit of crack on it...

I will give an report back on Monday when the belts are changed. On a side note, I also needed an new battery too.. Which one would you guys recommend? Currently, I have an die hard battery and I heard optima's are great but they were $154.99 at costco before tax..

Should I stick with die hard or something else?

thanks
