I'm pretty sure Texas Ace on yotatech is running a system like that. He has it on his supercharged 4runner and it looks impressive.
 
Yeah it does look good on his truck. I'm wanting to make sure it will be worth the $400 and what, if any, gains I'll see in mileage or performance.
 
If you really want to see some HP gains...get a SUPERCHARGER.
It won't affect your MPG and will turn your 4R into a rocket.
 
pfft forget the alcohol injection and superchargers...get 4.88 gears!

My truck jumped from 138rwhp to 177rwhp according to Dynolicious (app greated by GTECH)
 
How much would a regear cost and are the performance figures/improvements really THAT noticeable? Since going to 33's I feel like I lost a little power and it's annoying. I just don't wanna be turning 3,500 RPM at 70 on the highway.

According to Steeze his MPG went down to 13 after he SC'd his, but i have a feeling his right foot did most of that.
 
4.88s will give you all the power and accelleration you're looking for without the added stress of boost. If anything, it relieves a sh!t-ton of stress from the engine, giving it longer life.
Furthermore, 4.88s are 1/3rd of the cost of a SC with all the necessary fuel upgrades.

To me, the choice is simple :bigok:

do it...I'll help you install it...it'll take one day
 
gears dont add hp..... they make your truck accelerate quicker. if you are running stock tire diameter you will accelerate quicker and feel it, if your truck is running a bigger tire diameter it will help you regain some of your acceleration and feel like it did before. 15hp is hard to feel on our trucks because they weigh so much but hey every little counts... :cool: and dont forget that you might end up getting less than the 15

first of all that's 86-95 diffs...plus those are just ring and pinions...you're gonna need the install kit...plus you need to have someone setup the diff- backlash and what not.

I can unbolt the 3rd member and swap in a new one but there's no way I'd be confident with actual diff setup...

here's the guy you want to get them from-
he sends you a complete diff, already setup with 5 year parts and labor warranty...so you swap out the ham, and the truck is only hung up for a weekend at best...then you send him your old diff as a core...shipping isn't bad at all...think it only cost me $30 to send my old diff back

What are you trying to achieve in the end? I doubt you'd see 15whp with alcohol injection on an otherwise stock naturally aspirated motor but on an SC'd engine you would see it but only under full throttle. I could see if you are racing the truck but overall it seems to be a waste of money in the long run. You want a fast vehicle a 3rd gen is a bad place to start.
 
ron- he's just got a bunch of money and looking to make his truck the way he's always wanted, don't think he's looking to make a racer......

i'd recommend them, had a set in my old 5.9L jeep and they rocked, nice quiet and really enjoyed the power difference.

i'm also pretty sure that east coast sells the nitro brand gears ..
one is a gear manufacture and the other is just a distributor, in fact i'm pretty sure the east coast diff's come with the nitro (just differentials) or yukon (randy's ring and pinion) gears installed.

give just differentials a call and see what they can work out for you
they are pretty nice guys and will tell you the best way of going about things
with either buying from them or east coast as i think their parts are getting used either way, it's probably best to speak with the people who actually make the gears after you get off the phone with them give randy's a call and talk with them about the yukons , and make your mind up

I'm getting 18 - 20 mpg when I drive normal. If I rat race around town or on the hwy too much, that will drop it to a couple mpg less. Most SC owners will agree with that I think. The extra 50+ hp I'm getting is great.
 
Izzard's right. I'm not looking to make my 4Runner super quick or anything. I've just got some extra cash and I'm trying to personalize my truck in ways that haven't been tried before and may not be extremely beneficial or your choice, but it's my money and as it's been said here before, many a time, to each their own. A S/C would be very nice. That's #1 on my want list, followed by #2 Wheels #3 Rear ARB locker and #4 Re-gearing. Unfortunately, I don't think that a S/C is in the cards, since a full correct set up would cost me somewhere in the ballpark of $3000 to do it correctly. I've got about another $6-700 I'm willing to spend on my truck basically. Unfortunately, I'd be going for gears right now if they weren't so expensive. $1200 just for parts, how much for labor to install those things? Too bad you can't just open up the OEM differentials and drop [in my case] 4:88's right in. Sigh. Guess I'll figure out some other way to spend the dough.
 
It's 1200 for parts AND labor bro! They build you a diff and send it complete...then you DO just open the diff and drop it in! Then all you gotta do is take a road trip up to this glacier poop I call home and we'll spend the weekend wrenchin'!

i think for 200 more you can get the same thing from nitro/just differentials but with a arb locker and on board air kit......
from an email with carl @just differentials the other day.....i was asking him to call me if he came across a used stock e-locker 3rd for a buddy (tineman06)

Oh, on the elocker 3rd, they're not that great of a deal usually. I can sell a brand new one for about $1100 or a good used one about $600-800. Or a brand new 3rd member with arb air locker for $1400. The E-lockers are great if they are free and came in your truck, like yours or mine, but its a ***** to swap one in, as you have to grind, notch, weld, drill, tap, etc. Might be worth it if you scored one for super cheap.
