I have owned several Optima batteries and only had two fail on me and both were because I either did not charge them correctly and or I continually discharged them(on accident -had a drain/draw I didn't know about) and let them sit in a discharged state. The last Optima battery I purchased was in Dec, for my new GX. The other two I own, I have had for 4+ years with no issues. I regularly put heavy loads on them -winching, 700+w of lighting ect. Never have I had a Optima fail me because it was a bad battery.
I have also invested in a couple Noco Genius smart chargers/maintainers for my rigs. If the vehicle is going to sit for a while it will be plugged in. These chargers have a specific AGM setting for batteries such as the Optima. Once the batteries become fully charged the chargers automatically switch into a maintaining state and just ensure the battery stays a full. Optimas do not like to be left with a partial charge or low charge. Really no battery likes it. Also no battery likes repeated drains and draws, so people with big winching requirements it would be in your best interest to upgrade the electrical system to support such demands, and use the proper type of battery.
Everyone here is complaining, but I don't know why. I have always had good luck with Optimas once I learned how to take care of them, and they are a far superior battery to most others out there.
