Best Bike Hitch Rack?

I went silver since I am cheap. My buddies have black and it does fade after awhile.

I have two 1UP racks, both black, no fading at all. Had them for 3-4 years now. BUT, I store them in the garage. They are never on the truck unless there is a bike on it.

I had a Kuat and now have 1up, both are great. 1up has more option to keep bikes from touching each other and only touches the tires.

Is the 1Up rack easy to remove/install? Seems like it but just want to ask. I don't think I would keep it on without transporting a bike.

Very easy to take on and off the truck. You will not be disappointed in the 1UP.
I had other racks before and nothing comes close to the quality.

Where are you at in Socal?

It's easy as long as you're not weak. Mine is a 4 bike setup and has some weight to it (which just means it's solid), so carrying it could be a little awkward for some. Other than that, really easy and it folds up fairly nice for storage in the garage or back of vehicle.

Sitting at a red light at an exit off Hwy 2, and I see this lady coming in hot (about 20mph). I realized she's not paying attention and brace for impact -no brakes, no skids, just full speed into my rear (lol).

I realized the impact wasn't as bad as a normal rear end, but at this point I'm livid, thinking my bike was thrashed (insurance coverage for a bike is a huge pain in the ass).

Anyways, realized there was practically no damage, except to the rack. She paid me in full for a new rack and rear valence piece. Stoked that 1up stocks replaceable parts, so after about $150, it was good as new.

Not sure if other racks would've held up as well, or would've been easier to fix, but 1up is the way to go.

YIKES... And that is EXACTLY the reason I drive around with my 1up on even if I don't have by bike(s) on it!!!

I have a black double and it hasn't not really faded even being out in the SC sun. I've had it for about 4-5 years now.

I have a Thule T2 Pro XT2 which I love - secure, strong, drops out of the way of the hatch, etc. It was a tossup between that and the 1UP, though...I'm sure I would have been happy with either.

I have the Kuat. Had a Thule for years. Then I saw how much Kuat does to support races, trail building and festivals.

I have been to a ton of races, events, etc. and have seen 1UP at only ONE.

I'm floored with the support I have seen from Kuat.

If you ride trails, and want to support organizations that provide support to those that build and maintain them, Kuat is a good option.

Now there is a huge amount of shitty bike racks. It is worth choosing very carefully. I recently ran into a similar problem. My wife and I often go out of town, and in the car it is very inconvenient to transport bicycles. I tried 3 racks, but they all turned out to be of very poor quality.

My 1up HD is an absolute monster. Should have bought one sooner than wasting my time and money with a budget yakima

Quick question for 1up owners. I saw a lot of people saying go with the black and no clear reason for it. Is the silver raw alum and black are anodized or powder coated to offer some extra protection?

The black is really nice looking, but I see no reason for it other than cosmetics. Any corrosion on it will show up like a sore thumb. My silver 1UP is quite old, at least 5 or 6 seasons on it including lots of winter road crap, and it still looks good and functions fine. Kuat, Yakima and Thule are all nice racks, but they don't have the longevity that 1UP does in winter road grime. Also, the ability to easily replace parts on the 1UP is nice. One caveat- apparently there was a split at 1UP, and there is (was?) contention about who is the "original" manufacturer.

I've had a black 1Up for a couple seasons now. I sometimes carry fat bikes with studded tires in the winter months, and my trays are now a bit chipped where the tires contact. Also the overall black finish is duller than it was when new, presumably from UV.

I still think the black rack looks better with the cement/black scheme on my 4R but I know tons of people with the silver trays and they don't look much worse for the wear years later.

yeah the black anodizing fades and I am cheap so just went with silver. No complaints with 1up from me, most everyone I know are running them and are happy with them too.

I use the cheaper Kuat that holds two bikes. It works great for me. I saw a guy at the trailhead a week ago his Kuat had a bike stand adapter I thought it was pretty slick but definitely more then I wanted to pay.

Kuat Sherpa 2.0. It is lightweight which makes it is easy to install and uninstall. It’s also rock solid.
