Best brake pads?

Time to replace mine and was wondering what are the best pads out there? OEM, O'Reilly Ceramics, other?

Check out Performance Friction Carbon Metallic pads. I have a set on my 3rd gen with brembo rotors and they rock, minimal dust, zero noise and plenty of stopping power. They are pricey, but well worth it IMO.
 
I researched the sh-t out of this question and found that the majority recommended OEM pads and Brembo blanks for rotors.

The pads you can obviously get from your favorite OEM stealership or an online parts store.

As I've read from others though if your going to do your pads you should do the rotors as well, and vice versa.
 
If you want OEM style brake pads, Stoptech makes our TRD stuff so that's a "factory performance" option. Hawk makes good pads, Brembo has a great reputation; in short there are a lot of great options, but it depends on what you need them for?
 

I've used them for daily use and track use. They do pretty good for the price. They are basically the stoptech street performance pad. They do dust a good amount but imo they are the best bang for the buck. My carbotechs XP12's however are even better, provide good feedback and have great fade resistance. But when cold do make alot of noise and even more dust. Get some SS brake lines while your there.
 
I replaced my oem pads at 70k miles and they really did not need it yet. I have never had pads last that long on any vehicle I have ever owned. I replaced them with oem. I stick with what I know works.

Did you notice much difference with new pads, even though you may not have needed them?
 
My OEM pads lasted about 50k miles (but I do a fair amount of towing during the summer).

I've been using Wagner brake components for over 30 years. They are OEM style they make OEM brakes for many companies (Toyota included). My Wagner brakes seem to be lasting about 50k miles also...
 
I apologize for reviving this old thread. I wanted to start a new thread about one particular brake pad, but since I am new to this forum I don't have enough posts to meet the minimum for being allowed to start a new thread. So I am trying to get my post count up past the minimum number whatever that is, while at the same time trying get the information I am seeking.

And, before I post this I did do a forum-wide search for this particular brake pad and did not see anything come up in my forum search that even mentions this brake pad.

I usually do a lot of reading and homework before making a purchase, so this has been no exception. I am happy with the performance of OEM ceramic brake pads, but not too happy about the price.

In the past I have used various ceramic brake pads mainly Wagner brand, but on my 2000 4Runner I began using Raybestos discs and ceramic brake pads and shoes.

But now Raybestos has a new brake pad on the market. It is called a hybrid and is a mixture of both ceramic and semi-metallic in one product.

From what I can determine this newer hybrid brake pad is top of the line and considered premium quality and performance right along side their standard professional grade ceramic brake pads.

As I said above, I did a forum-wide search for the term "raybestos hyrbid" and I did not find a single mention of this brake pad which I find curious because my whole interest in starting a new thread on this brake pad was to ask the members here if anyone has used this hybrid and what are the opinions of it?

Raybestos website is telling me this is their best brake pad technology. I am willing to give it a try and the price is comparable to Wagner ceramics which are about $60.00 for both sets, and these hybrid Raybestos pads are a little over $62.00 for both sets.

So if the forum search engine is thorough, then this comment about the Raybestos hybrid brake pad is the first mention of it on this forum. I got a total of 3 hits and none of them mention this hybrid brake pad so I am curious if anyone here has used these before and are they as good or better than regular ceramic brake pads? Thanks in advance...
 
I work for lexus as a technician and have found through my years of experience and many many warped rotors that oem pads and rotors seem to work the best. If you have oem rotors with non oem pads they just dont seem to mate well and vice versa. The oem pads and rotors are made to wear out the same and both metals are made for eachother. Just my .02 though.

Good info. Thank you for your input. With a lift and bigger wheels/tires would you continue to use OEM or upgrade to something else?
