Can someone with the Dongle and Torque Android app verify that you can do these things too?? Say I put a device running Android permanently in my Runner and connect the bluetooth dongle to it wirelessly. Will I be able to see all my intake temps, Avg MPG, etc. like the scangauge??
 
Yup. Do you have an Android? Go download the free app and check it out, you don't need to have it paired up with anything to configure the interface.

Right now I've got mine set to display Coolant Temp, MPG, Intake Temp, and Engine Load, and that's just on one of seven screens. It'll show boost, ambient air, speed, acceleration, fuel/air status, trip distance, barometer, timing advance, fuel trim, I forget what all else. Plus it reads and clears codes.

So cool, eat that i-phone users. I just ordered me one and I'm so excited.

Yes, if the ECU puts out a PID Torque will display it, plus all obvious calculations. And do it in lots of pretty ways, needle gauges, bar graphs, etc, that a ScanGauge can't touch. Plus it can use the accelerometer and GPS in the device, if it has them--mine does. The only drawback is I need the thing for other uses, and my tablet is way too big to leave installed all the time.

Can a ScanGuage display O2 sensor voltage graphically over time?? I don't believe it can. Torque does.

I agree. I was quite disappointed when I borrowed JMT2404's little scanner thing and it would work on my iPhone.

I even considered getting a Droid, but then I remembered it was a Droid.
 
BAFX + Torque is this one of the best combos for the price?

Looked at an ELM327 BT + Torque combos a while back but never got to buy one. It seems that a lot of peeps are running the BAFX + Torque combo on their 4Runners.

So is this the combo to buy?

I don't mind paying a bit more but I see that the BAFX even has a 1 year warranty.

I upgraded to this BAFX one in August 2013, after I got a tablet that did not work on USB. It has been rock solid with phone and tablet on several cars. 2,483 reviewers giving 4.5 stars is tough to beat.

For as many DIY people in this forum, I can't believe there aren't more of you with Techstream. I can't imagine not having the factory software.

What interface/software do you have? I see there are cheaper alternatives now than the last time I looked when it was more than I felt like spending without a specific issue I couldn't handle with just OBDII.
 
It's just Toyota Techstream for Toyota Lexus and Scion. It's the software used on Toughbooks by the dealer. It'll get you into every computer in the vehicle, although these 4runners have fewer than newer cars.

For a while I was very interested in compiling a solid collection of all versions of the software and learning all I could about getting it working at home. Recently, my newly purchased 4runner has pushed my interest in Techstream to the back burner though.

It's about $30 on average for the cable, and that's all you really have to buy. The software is there and the only other thing needed is an old laptop. Preferably an older one with a 32 bit OS.
 
Yep, that's the one. Ignore the version of Techstream it comes with. You may have to install different versions to get it working properly anyway and any version you want including the most recent version available is in the link in my walkthrough post. All you're after is the cable, and that one will work fine.

Thanks for bringing this up to our attention! I think I will be good with a BT + Torque app for now. I might consider this later on when I need something more powerful. I'll let TheDurk play with it first! :-) I do have an old 32bit XP laptop I can use.

Would this work on a 2002 Lexus too?

Not me. My guess is you have a spam filter in the mix that gets some and not others. Check your spam file.

I really think someone fixed it. It's been doing that for a while now and I've checked my spam/junk mail many times.
