Best (current) ODBII dongle for Torque App

Hi Guys,

I am looking to pick up a Bluetooth ODBII adapter for use with the torque app.

Does anyone have any current recommendations and vendor suggestions for an adapter that works particularly well with the 5th and offers all the available metrics?

I know a lot have had good experiences with the ELM327, especially considering the cost. Just wondering if there is anything else I should consider before pulling the trigger on one.

I have looked through the other threads and my question comes from having read them. (Including yours and Jeremy B's PID configuration thread).

Just refreshing the subject in case anything new has come out / any new issues have been found as many of the threads have been dormant for a while. Perhaps someone knows of vendor that sells more recent (and maybe more reliable) generations of the ELM 327, for example.

I haven't seen any updates to the torque wiki page in regards to the adapters since the first time I looked at the site more than a year and a half ago but there are tons of other players in the game now as a quick amazon search reveals. Not looking to pay more for something that does the same thing, but definitely willing to pay 50$ Vs 30$ if it is guaranteed to work out of the box, has a longer lifetime and updates a bit quicker or gives access to a few extra parameters. Just looking for input in that regard.

Update:

Ended up going with the cheepo ELM 327 mini adapter from an Amazon vendor.

Zero complaints after running it for quite a while. If you're on the fence about giving Torque pro and an ODBII adapter a whirl and already have an android phone, its definately worth the el-cheepo price of admission.

I plan on running this truck till it gives up the ghost, and take comfort in knowing that I can look up and clear codes on the go as the vehicle gets older. The datalogging and sample rate is also a lot better than I expected for something so innexpensive.
 
Similar experience here too with my ELM 327! I've had mine for a little over 2 years now, and I've used it in several vehicles, the only one it did not work in was a 2000 Ford Focus due to something inside the ELM327 that does not communicate with that ecu.

For 7 bucks and free shipping, plus the cost of the Torque app, its worth every penny to be able to have a code scanner/reader with you at all times, not to mention the ability to see a TON of other data on your vehicle!

Of course, if you don't trust the 7 buck dongle, you could always go with one of the tested units from Torque's webpage:

I've been using the same one for about 3 years. I have 3 of them (one for each of my cars)....they've worked flawlessly from day 1. Hard to beat for $5-7.
