Best daily driver ride - Trail, sr5, or limited?

another vote for test drive and decide...

but to give another vote for the SR5: minez drives wonderfully, tho i understand its NOT a luxury ride-but hey, im a man, im 40 (plus). its a little buzy, a little bumpy, and i love that about it. it reminds me that it has some beef to it. it is my daily driver, plus my family road trip hauler, and add a little weekend warrier off-roading on the side, and of course snow-day adventurer.

my dream, if i could, is to buy a Limited for a 2nd vehicle for my wife. so she can enjoy all of the comforts of the Limited, the build quality of a 4rnr, better road manners with the XREAS, and the full time 4WD without having to think about it or call me once the snow starts to fall here in the mid atlantic. plus, it would be a nicer truck, so she can leave minez alone.
sorry, i love her, but i didnt learn to share as a child...

My choice was an LE with TE wheels. A slight drop in cornering with a big improvement in ride comfort over all types of roads.

very subjective - all you can do is test drive numerous times on same route and judge for yourself

I recently replaced 20" on my LTD with 17" - solely for wide choice in tires - and can't really tell any difference in ride.

If ride is top concern, T4R may not be best choice. If set on T4R, think other options/concerns/equipment outweigh any ride/drive differences between models.

'16 Trail

Our Canadian '16 Trail is our only vehicle, but it came with KDSS, Goodyear Duratracs, rear differential lock, nav, backup camera, heated front seats and all mod cons. It is a huge improvement on the highways over the '15 Wrangler JKU we traded in on it and it will take us anywhere we want to go off-road, with far more comfort and reliability. - Ted

The limited xreas suspension ride harsher than the standard suspension. Even Consumers Reports magazine reports this in their review. Swapping to 17" rims will only produce a less harsh ride if you stick with P rated tires. My 275/70/17 E rated BFG K02 tires ride stiffer than my stock 20" tires.

For an on-road in-city daily driver with weekends in the woods (not off-roading, just driving out into unpaved camping areas), I went with a SR5 Premium Edition. 17" wheels ride better than the low-profiles of the Limited and will be cheaper to replace in four or five years, and I got fake leather seats (more waterproof than real leather), but with the moon roof, premium sound system, running boards, fog lights, etc. of the Limited. Plus, it's all-white without the chrome accents, so it has a nice Stormtrooper look to it. If I decide to upgrade the bolt-on parts down the road (literally), I have a good base to start from.

They all have the same engine/transmission set-up, so no difference there. It's comes down to the rear sway bar and shocks for the suspension, and the first part of the suspension to absorb road shock is the tire.

Largely I agree and would have made the same choice but the Limited has full time 4WD which was a big plus for us and our Explorer spoiled us with the ventilated seats which are a big plus as well. I could certainly live without the chrome accents though.

Thanks for your reply. The use of it would be a combo of city driving around Indy and about fifteen 300 mile trips to rural Kentucky and back - 2/3's of the ky trips being interstate and the other 1/3 being winding but paved back-roads, and a semi-annual 1000 mile trip to and back from Florida. Little to no non-paved roads use.

The Limited with 17 inch wheels and good AT tire is probably your best bet...

I've owned both a trail and limited. The trail with kdss rides best. The 20" wheels on the Limited brings on the suck. If you're not going to mod the suspension go with a trail, if you're going to do suspension work and new wheels/tires go with a Limited if the interior and full time transfer case are important to you. Also, go drive them all and make up your own mind, your local dealer should have all of them at some point or another.
