Its not "All wheel drive", this is true. It IS however "All Time 4 Wheel Drive"....and i just abbreviate to AWD.
Best feature/capability of 4th gen 4Runner.

yes it does function similar to some AWD when the center diff. is unlocked, but toyota refers to it as "FULL TIME 4 WHEEL DRIVE " not "ALL TIME 4 WHEEL DRIVE" so how can that be abreviated to AWD. i can see FT 4WD as an abreviation. theres a reason its not referred to as AWD & that 's to keep it separate from vec.'s labeled as being AWD since AWD vec.'s have no 4LO. while both are used & its no biggy to most folks, but imo, it is a bit of disservice to the 4r when discribing it as having AWD. http://rubicon-trail.com/4WD101/4WD-AWD-autoAWD.html decent links with info on this thread. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/7478-v8-awd-part-time-conversion.html :cheers:

Splitting hairs here, people. As long as the next thing posted isnt, "my dad can beat up your dad".
Id like to add to the list of fav. things on the T4R the rear-air/heat. Keeps the inlaws from b*tching, "its too hot!" or "im too cold!" STFU!!!:smashputer:
