Hey all,
I was in my local "everything" shop... just looking around when another guy with a similar old skool runner came to pick his up from having HID'S installed. I have never given them much thought beforem but i think imight want to have them installed. I've seen some very cheap kits but the ones i saw at this shop were $250.. what do you think is a good price for a kit? I believe they were 600k not to crazy just a nice while light. is there a brand that stands out among the rest? resulting in less trouble and dependable service?
thanks.

I've had good luck with DDM. Pretty cheap, but have a lifetime warranty.

I've heard good things from XenonDepot too. They are a vender on this forum.

:iagree:

I've had good luck with DDM on the last 5 kits i've used.

I will tell you to stay away from Xentec on Ebay. I've had two of their kits. One on my Mazda and the one i currently have on my t4r. They both developed random flickering. The Xentec kit on my 4r had random flickering right out of the box.

thanks for the replies... i have heard some nightmares about ebay... i want to stick with a good kit. i am going to find out the local shope uses and them post here to see what everyone on here thinks..
thanks

most hid kits are the same, on ebay look for a h4 bixenon kit, the cost is about 60 on average, get a 4300k or 6000k color, if u ant something better, do a retrofit, sure the cost in parts are at 300bucks, but u will have the best light.

Hey,
Thanks for the replies... the Shop i am talking about does have the Rep for being the most expensive around.. they also have some of the best installers and people there.. they only carry brand name audio and such.. they just recently stopped carrying Alpine audio(have to find out why) now they are strictly Kenwood and Pioneer.(never thought PIOwould ever bounce back from the High school days) i'm going there today and see if i can find out what brand of kit they have... I have a 97 4 runner all i would like to do in wire in the kit and off i go.. i've seen a lot of people doing things to their lights which i do not understand. I think my bulbs are H7 right? i'll have to check that. when i get the info i'll check back here.
thanks

I don't mean to put down the shop, but Kenwood and Pioneer are not the best brands by any means.

Also, an HID install is pretty darn easy. Less than an hour for sure.

Hey,
I totally..(cant believe i said "totally" in that text) understand what you mean... normally when a business stops carrying a great brand that has carried them for years there is a good reason... the sales guy told me that theystopped because alpine had fallen behind the technology and the others had passed them by(like what happaned to palm..) I found out that alpine makes them carry a lot of stock.... and i guess they didnot sell enough... but anyhow... I like Alpine so i will just find a dealer that still sells Alpine and just have them install it.

HID... I could not find a brand name on any of the kits... from what i was told at another shop if it's made in china it's garbage- if it's made in Japan it good.. if it's made in Germany it's the best you can get.. those kits are $3000.00 - no thank you...

they also said that if i can get a Generation 4 it would be a wise choice..

I do like the idea of have the Hi beams in with the HID...

thanks for the reply.

I told u that u need the h4 bixenon kit, i bet all his kit are from china, most ballast are china made, german philips and japan catz are the real deal that cost an arm and leg.

They actually had a german kit he had ordered in for someone it looked like the rest except everything was in German and it was $2000 I dont know what kind of car it was going in but i guess it was impressive..

I mentioned to him what you and some other folks told me... I'm having my H/U changed out next week so i'll have them install the HID then.. since i'm having the radio done there wont be a charge for the lights.... been going there for a while. i trust them.

so what brand is it? only oem brand i know on germans are hella, bosch, philips, osram.i want to see that 2grand kit, if its a oem equipment like the brands i listed along with japan denso koito matsu****a than thats a brand that will last.

Hey,
i have to go back there anyhow... and inquire about the H/U.. I'll see if i can get the brand name..
the first guy was really pushing the Generation 4 kits though.. we will see i'll check back in here later on tonight

Hey,
The kit was a german brand the writing was all in german so i guess maybe Bosch? i dont know i cant tell you that it was $2k worth of lights going into some local kids car... thanks for the heads up. I had no idea that a bunch of lights could cost so much..

Morimoto hid kit from TRS is made by one of the biggest manufacturers of China - Cnlight.
I think it's a good option in terms of stable quality and electric parameters. But not cheapest.
I've personally chosen oem denso ballasts with cnlight bulbs

DDM you can order them yourself online from their site. They do take a little longer than usual to arrive since they now ship from Asia as opposed to California like they used to... Great product/great price/lifetime warranty. It's a no brainer.

wth they ship from china now? damn it no wonder its taking so long!!!!

if you guys are ordering from ddm, you guys might as well order from ebay, no need to pay for shiipping sometime and tax, they all come from china, just know what to get and wat not to get, so on ebay stay away from xentec, everything else is a hit or miss, also the seller can be an asss , make sure if u have a problem, that whey will help solve it.

Hey all,
thanks for the replies and all of the extra help.... i'm not looking for the cheapest - never have never will... i just want something that will work for a while with minimal problems if it means i have to spend a bit more - so be it.. i am a firm believer that you get what you pay for... I dont know if i get something from ebay and have a problem how long it will take or where my equipment will come from. I have found out that the Majority of the kits do come from China- even kits with Japanese names... what does that tell you? sad state.... while i am waiting for my H/U to come in i have still have to do some more research..
Thanks again for all of the help in this matter. I did not know much about the subject but thanks to you all i'm a little brighter on the subject(pun intended).
