Best ignition wires and spark plugs ...

A friend and I are having a debate on this ...

He buys nothing but Toyota. I want to do the same but on some things ... I don't think it's worth it.

Dealer wants 100$ for the wires only :awais:

I keep on telling my friend there might be another brand to use that might be equal or better to OEM wires ...

Are there any ?

What brand ?

Same question on the spark plugs ...

The main thing about OEM, and some aftermarket, is that they're an exact fit (plug n play). A lot of the aftermarket kits require assembly (ie, cut the wires to length and install connectors). A lot of the good ones are this way too.

Rule of thumb would be the thicker (mm) the better (less loss).
Accel and MSD would be good brands to go with.

As for plugs I'm not that picky, Champion, AC, NGK, Denso have all worked fine for me. However, some vehicles (my Trooper for instance) are very specific about plugs, due to some of the newer high-tech systems. The Trooper has this Ion-Sensing ignition system that uses the plug to analyze exhaust gas in the cylinder.
Any plug but the OEM Denso's can cause random mis-fire CELs (but it really isn't mis-firing).

I use the Magna-Core ignition wires, they are plug and play and seem to work great. I also use those Iridium plugs. Seems to work fine.

Bottom line is, for the 22R/RE or 3.slow, don't bother with any of the "special" plugs like platinum, iridium, dual or quad electrode, etc. These engines don't need that, you're just wasting $$.

For the spark plugs, why are iridium or platinum ones useless ? I mean, they sure might help on the gas/mileage ??

Is it the same for a distributor cap and rotor ? Should I choose OEM ones or Bosch will do ?
