best jack for my needs

I'm in need of a jack, my 93 didn't come with one. I'm shopping right now but besides knowing how to use one, I don't know a lot about them. My options are a floor jack, a bottle jack and a farm jack.

I kinda want to get the farm jack so that in a pinch if I get stuck off road (not "off roading", just driving on some ranch land that I own) I will have an emergency backup to get unstuck. But I'm not sure how safe they are, or how useful they are for just regular stuff garage type work.

also, I am looking at some jack stands and they are rated by weight. what is the minimum weight tolerance I should consider for my vehicle? it's basically just a stock 93.

you can always search junk yards for factory bottle jacks.
but id say just a floor jack that is tall enough to reach. and if ya need it off road then bring a piece of 1" plywood that you can put on the ground so the wheels of the jack don't dig in the dirt. jack stands? just go to kragen or somethin and get some 2 tons.

A farm jack/hilift isn't going to do you any good at all if you don't have hard points (bumpers, sliders) on your truck.

They're not inherently unsafe, as long as you learn how to use them and pay attention. They can be VERY unsafe if you're careless. They're fine for regular driveway lifting, I own a floor jack and use my hilift all the time because it's faster.

Not sure if you have a harbor freight near by, but that's where I bought my 2.5 ton floor jack and 6 jack stands that both go up to 24".

Not everyone has the best luck with harbor freight products but my floor jack works fantastic, i've had it for over 2 years now. and I always carry a jack stand in the truck too and use it when ever I jack up, just in case. I'm not crawling under a big ass truck without one.

They also have a 12 ton bottle jack for I think 40 bucks. Maybe worth checking out.

Rating of 2 tons should be fine, but bigger is better.

I use this from Summit racing. Performance Tool W1625 - Performance Tool Bottle Jacks - Overview - SummitRacing.com I used a hi lift farm type jack on my Jeep Wrangler because it had good jacking points but it is almost useless on my 4runner.
